EASY and Early Wakings?????
« on: August 13, 2008, 23:21:52 pm »
Just a question regarding early wakings and EASY
my 14 week old has started EW since changing her habital wakings, she sleeps through from 7:00/7:30 to 5am. She is on transition to 4 hour currently at 3.5 or 3.75 hour EASY.
I know she can go at least another hour without a feed as she has done so before when her NW were erratic.
When she wakes at 5am i resettle and she seems to sleep for only 15 or 20 minutes each time until 7am when I feed her, she only cries a little but as soon as i put her down to sleep she wakes and it starts all over again.
After feeding her she is very tired and so I put her down for a nap about 30 to 45 mins later but she will wake well before her next schedule feed time and the cycle continues all day, with A before E.
Q1 When this happens how do I adjust to get back onto EASY?
Q2 Should i just feed her in increasingly smaller amounts at 5am over a few days to get her back to sleep until wake time?
Q3 When she wakes early do i start EASY routine from her wake time or feed time?
Any advice will be much appreciated.

With the 5am waking, you can do one of the following:-

1) either offer a small feed to tide over until normal feed time (not sure if you BF or Bottlefeed)
2) if you think that your lo is waking out of habit at 5am, you could always try W2S.  This would mean waking up at about 4am to gently stirr her to get her into the next phase of sleep.  We did this when we went through a phase of habitual early wakings, and it worked wonders.

Thanks Paula,
This morning I did give a small feed but it took almost 45 minutes to get her back to sleep for normal wake time.. persistence is key I guess!

At such a young age, I'd be suspicious that she is hungry and I would probably feed her.
