getting bf baby poo stains out of clothes...
« on: August 14, 2008, 12:45:38 pm »
Does anyone have a recommendation for getting that bf poopy stain out of clothes?  I'm talking about that mustardy yellow stain.  I've tried soaking the clothes in water and a stain remover like zout and then washing, but i still get stains.  Any tips would be great!

I use Oxyclean which was recommended to me in the hospital.  I try to scrub the stain before it dries - if I don't have time I soak it in water until I can get to it - rinse it with water and then wash in Dreft.  Sometimes it dries before I wash it in the machine but that doesn't seem to be a problem.  I really scrub hard and use more Oxyclean than I probably should but it almost always comes out.

thanks for the tip.  You're the second person who's told me about oxy clean. I'll give it a try.

A friend of mine used carpet stain remover and sweared by it. I use a product called Winning Colors (i found it at home depot) and while I don't know if gets bf poop out it does get out paint, grass stains, blood and red wine!

This!  :)  I've also had some luck with Shout gel, with the plastic scrubbie bit at the top of the bottle.

I stick our stained baby clothes (especially bibs) into the previous day's Milton sterilising water. Kind of recycling, saves buying a new product to use and also gets most of the marks out!!  ;D

SUNSHINE!!!! Just dry the clothes in full sunlight and it'll disappear - works for carrots or any other orange / red food stain.

Provided you live somewhere that it's not as wet outside as it is in the washer.  ::)  I think ours would mildew first!   :-X

THE best stain remover for baby stuff and that bright yellow poo is Sweet Pea stain remover by Caldrea.  It's made for babies, so it's very mild.  I'm not sure how it works so well - you don't even have to scrub!!  I bought mine online.

I have to second this.  We do cloth diapers and they turn white in the sun as if by magic.  :D

OK.  I have to ask.  What is Milton sterilizing water?
Milton is a brand name of tablets which disolve in water for sterilising baby bottles, so it must be safe for baby's skin cos they can drink it!!!  :o Well, not exactly drink it, but you don't need to rinse the bottles after sterilising and before use! It's famous in the UK and Europe. Also it takes that horrible tea stain off teaspoons and tea cups!! (this is probably only useful to us Brits and those BW's who drink tea!!) ;)
Maybe other sterilising liquids/tablets work too?

Hi all!  What great tips!  I've been using the oxy clean and it worked like magic!  I couldn't believe it!  I'm sold on oxy clean - partly b/c it's so easy to get.  But I am interested in the caldrea sweet pea stuff.  Stupid question but you just take the clothes that you laundered in the washing machine and just put them out in the sunshine and htat's it?  reeally?
