Big bed to small bed......problem
« on: August 15, 2008, 02:47:43 am »
Hello all.  My name is Gloria and we have been doing the Baby Whisperer way since she was born.  It has been great, we have had very few issues until now. Anything that came up, once we used the method it was solved in a week or so.  I transitioned her to a big bed (Queen size )at 17 months because she kept become stuck in the crib.  So I made her room a big crib, put a gate at her door.  From day one she took to the big bed (Queen size bed) with no problems.  Now is the part where we just through her world a curve ball.  At 22 months my husband received a promotion, but we have to move and here in the US the realstate market is having issues. So we had to stage the house to make it as attractive as possible. Thus putting our king size bed in storage, moving her queen size bed to our room and buying her a toddler bed.  Plus we had new carpet and painting all done in a week.   That has been about a month ago and she has not slept in her bed at all.  She goes to bed willingly, but as soon as I turn off the lite, she walks over to the gate and lays downs and goes to sleep. We have to keep the door open too. She is sleeping about 10-11 hrs.   I know it won't hurt her to sleep on the floor and she isn't making a fuss, but other than perhaps buying her a bigger bed  ( a twin)  I just don't know what to do.   She doesn't act like she is scared of her bed, she will play on it during the day.

Do I just leave it as it is for now, since when we move we'll be changing her world again (not to mention we have a new baby on the way in Oct)?  I would appreciate any advice.  Thanks.

Gloria,
If it ain't broke, don't fix it is my motto.
If your LO is getting lots of sleep, I'd leave things be.  If you are moving then she may take to her bed after the move.
Good luck!

Yup!!  If she is not comfortable, she won't sleep as well as she is.

i would agree with pp, until she has sleep issues, don't change anything else.   i read soemwhere not long ago about a mom who's lo slept under the big bed for a while, made lo feel 'safer' she guessed.

I agree with PPs. Leave it; it's working for now; and you will rock her world soon with the move and baby.

I agree, if she seems comfortable and is sleeping good for her, leave her be.

If it is bothering you you could use a blow up mattress or a mat, and put it away during the day. (if the blow up mattress is safe for children, not sure)
