Well, atm we're doing fixed nap times so whatever time he's awake we were at 10, then over the last few weeks we've stretched to 10.15 and now today I though I'd try 10.30. HE was awake at 5.45. He generally sleeps for between 45 and 60 mins, or I wake him at 11.15 at the latest, mostly 11 if he has slept through

Then pm nap is at 2.30 (he's mostly at the childminders atm) and sleeps for 1.5 to 2 hours, somtimes would be longer but I have her wake him at 4.30. Then bedtime is 7, unless we have a bad pm nap and then I put him down earlier at 6.30.

Actually Paula I have a thread on this here rather than getting into it on this thread - Charm has been helping me - could you pop over there and take a look? Thank you thank you!

Hello,

My first born little boy (now 2.5 years) droped from a nap in the morning and afternoon to one afternoon nap at around 12.30 at 14mths for 2 hours. It did take a little time as he got very tired around bedtime but i just kept with it and he soon got the hang of it.

Hope this helps

My son is almost 19 months old and I'm wondering when he should drop a nap??
What are the signs? Right now he seems to go without a second nap be it morning or afternoon and we havent changed to one because we figured it his teething pains were keeping him up?!He has his hands in his mouth a lot! When he does only have one nap he will wind down faster at night but is often irritable
I'd like to change him over tomorrow
Any tips would be greatly appreciated!  :)
Mum to a very spirited toddler :)

I think my 11 month old is ready for one nap. She currently wakes at 5:30am naps at 9-11am, and from 2pm-3:30pm. Bed at 7-7:30pm. I am hoping that I can hold her until 11am and then put her down for one nap. Hoping that she will sleep in past 5:30am! She's been doing this for months now and no matter if I put her to bed at 7pm or keep her up later she still wakes up at the same time. I hope that the 1 nap/day will fix this. Has anyone had this experience with success??? Please!?!?

Hi Zulpa - I feel your pain cos we suffer from the EW monster too. I don't think 1 nap will necessarily solve the problem - if you're like us you're stuck in a catch 22 - you won't get to 1 nap with a wake-up of 5.30 and a 14 hour day.....my advise would be to try and fix the EWs first.

Maybe post your full routine on the EASY board and see if you can get some help to fix the EWs.......

I'm not going to say we've fixed the EWs but the last few days have been much better - but we've gone back to only 3.75 to 4 hours A time before 1st nap and your lo needs to be able to do 5 hours to get to 1 nap.........

We moved to one nap this week.  I put Bryce down around 10:30 or 11:00 for his nap.  He is sleeping anywhere between 2 and 2.5 hours.  His bedtime has been around 6:30  to 7:00 and then sleeps to around 6:30 or so.  He was an early waker before this switch. I hope this sticks!!

We transitioned just before 10 months old although it wasn't my choice.  I just could not get him down for any sort of catnap in the afternoon after a morning sleep of 2 hours.  It was very very hard.

In hindsight I should have perserved with the short 1st nap (45 mins) and longer second nap scenario,  I was just too scared of a crabby LO from being woken and also LO being trained to forget how to sleep in nice long blocks and then being extra OT.  But in hindsight he was OT anyway, so it was worth a try as soo many people have had success with the first npa being shortened.

This may sound like a silly question but how do you know when they're ready to go to one nap? My DD has been a bit random which I put down to us recently coming back from vacation but I think she may be ready to drop the afternoon nap.

She currently takes a 90 min nap in the morning around 9.30/10am and if she does this, can last until 6pm by which time she starts getting cranky so I send her to bed.

I've tried getting her to sleep in the afternoon around 3pm but to no avail lately as she's more interested in rolling around in the cot so is clearly not ready to sleep. She is generally quite jolly so don't think she's OS/T.

Opinions?

Thanks
Deb

Hi Deb,
This is just a voting link. In the naps section there are some stickies about dropping to one nap. You could also post a link. Going to one nap is a complicated thing :)

We moved to one nap at 14 months, after two days of first morning nap refusal.  After 3 days of one nap, massive OT set in and I went back to two naps.

For the next month we did 2 naps except on the odd exception when we again had a nap-refusal for the first morning (short) nap - but instead of deciding this meant a permanent move to one nap I just let it slide as a one-off.

At 15 months we went to one nap, with every 4th or 5th day being two naps.  There were lots of early bedtimes on days when the one nap didn't work (an OT nap b/c I should have done 2 naps or a UT nap because I put him down too early).  Now, at 15.5 months I am pretty confident that we are onto one nap, although he is very low on A times and high on sleep needs when he is teething, and so I have done the odd day with 2 naps to catch up from that - and on these days both naps tend to be short (30/45 + 45/1hr) and an early bedtime.

HTH!

Ok, my DD is just over 10 months old.  She has been an angel/text book baby and always had a morning nap and afternoon nap.  Just lately she has started dropping her morning nap but having her afternoon nap earlier (1pm instead of 2pm).  She just won't sleep in the mornings, nothing i can do.  Does this sound way too early?  Thanks.
