When did you LO move to 1 nap?
« on: August 17, 2008, 00:53:05 am »
So we are slowly on the move to 1 nap i think it will be another few months though. My DD1 did the move at 11.5months and i reading the LO's seem to be doing this earlier.
So would be interested to see when your LO's did the move.
I am going to ask for this to be made a sticky so people can continue to vote and compare.

Riley was just over a year old when he dropped to one nap. It did take a while though for it to be consistent, at weekends etc he would still often take 2 naps. The reason we did the shift was I started a new job and the schedule kind of messed things up a bit.

I have been reading lots of posts lately about los moving to one nap at the year mark or sooner, seems to be more common in los where there are older children in the family.

If I remember correctly, dd was around 16 months w/ the occasional two nap day.  Ds is doing 2-3 days of one nap and then a two-nap day.   Still having EW's but we are slowly getting there.

DD1 was around 19 months.  I was holding on and things were going just fine.  Then dh was home for a week and he switched her to one nap.  She was (is) so easy going and was still regularly napping at 5.5 years old.  She is "little miss high sleep needs"

DD2 was around 12/13 months, as we had dd1's preschool schedule to work around (like Michelle mentioned) and the first nap of the day wasn't happening (or I would finally get her down and I would have to wake her to get dd1).

The one year mark is common for those in day care situations, as that is *usually* what happens away from home, iykwim

My toddler was actually 20 months before he transitioned. He was a short napper until 8 months but from then until 20 months did 2 x 2 hour naps every day! He still does 1 x 2.5-3 hour nap. I'm very lucky. My only sanity with a new short napper now!

Zara was around 12 months.  Hugh was a super champ at 9 mo, but then we went away for a few weeks, so he did 2 short naps for that trip, then when came home at just over 10 months, straight back to 1 nap.  He throws in the odd two nap day if there is something weird going on (like today) but that is uncommon.  Zara's transition was completed by 13 months, although she did get OT on nap initially - but was fighting napping like no tomorrow, so we had no choice but to roll with it.

I agree that 2nd children tend to transition sooner, particularly if they are not kept home for their naps...Hugh was/is dragged to activities every morning, so it wasn't easy for him to nap until we got home...and those activities are essential for us in amusing a spirited DD! He loves the activities too now.

Started transistioning at 9 months - went cold turkey at 12 months, very occassionally have a 2 nap day - mainly at weekends if out and about but has 2-3.5 hour nap and a 11/12 hr night for the last 6 weeks.

I think dd was around 13 months. Very easy transition as am nap just kept getting shorter. Ds went cold turkey 2 days before his first birthday when we went on vacation. Prior to his transition we had almost 5 months of EW usually around 5.30 and that was it for the day so I was extremely happy to go to 1 nap.

We started the transition around 14.5 months and she's pretty much on one nap now (she's 16 months), with the occasional 2 (if ot).

We have already started the transition  :o

DD is 9.5 months old and has been only having 1 nap for just over a week  :o :o

I am so not ready for this, but she is needing 4 - 4.5 hours of A time before going down for a nap.  She is napping anywhere between 1.5 - 2 hours and is not OT by bed time.

With DS he transitioned at 12 year.

I'm assuming you meant 12 months Paula ;)

DD started transitioning at about 16 mo and was on one nap regularly at 18 mo. We still (she's 2 yo in 2 weeks) sometimes do 2 naps if she's unwell or OT as she only does 10.5 hrs at night
