Thanks Anne and Alison for checking in.  Hayden was up for a feed at 1:30 during the night.  Both DH and I woke at that time with horrendous headaches (maybe a flu starting? we both feel terrible) and in my fog I got so angry that she was up so early (generally when she's up that early, it's a 2 feed night).  So I tried to settle her without feeding - to no avail, she quickly escalated into all out screaming and woke Maren up. I gave in and fed her, she fed for 20 minutes and then went back into her crib all smiles and promptly fell asleep.  She woke up at 6:30, which is her usual time, so I was super happy that she didn't wake for a second feed.

She'd had such a great day food-wise yesterday, and did seem to get caught up a bit on sleep with that nap in my lap, so I was foolishly hoping she'd STTN.  I know I should just let it go, I just can't believe I've gone for so long without a good night's sleep.  I know it could be so much worse, I know I have to be patient and wait, but it's hard, especially when Maren slept 7 to 7 at 12 weeks.  I keep thinking Hayden should be able to do this, and that she doesn't need the night feed... but then she has a long night feed and sleeps the rest of the night, she's obviously still hungry and I can't get her to increase her daytime calories.

Anyways, I put her down for her first nap after 3.5 hrs A time.   She didn't seem to be tired yet, but I didn't want to push it any further.  She went to sleep without a peep, so I presume I got it right.  We'll see how long this nap goes for.

:)

I hear you on the "I wish she would just sleep through the night" thing.  And maybe she's ready...maybe she's not.  I am sure you've tried increasing her calories during the day and if she doesn't wake at the same time every night that does lead me to believe she really is hungry.  20 minutes is a good feed.  Does it seem to interupt her morning feed?  If it doesn't, I would say she still needs it (I know that's not what you want to hear - but you've obviously tried other ways to get her to sleep w/o feeding).  I hope this nap goes all right.

My gut tells me that because of her reflux she's taking smaller feeds in the day and still needs this night feed.  It's always at a different time, the only time it affects her morning feed is if it's at 5 am and I feed her on both sides.  She goes right back to sleep after I've fed her (but I'm not feeding her to sleep), and she can settle sometimes without being fed, but she'll keep waking every 20 minutes until she's fed...  I tried cutting 2 minutes off her feed time to start the gentle removal of the feed, and she just woke up 2.5 hours later, really hungry.  I have an appointment with our new paed on September 8 and I'm hoping maybe a new med or dose increase will help.  I just can't shake the fantasy of a whole night's sleep. :-\  We're at the 45 minute mark, and she hasn't made a peep yet...

Yay for making it through the 45 minute mark!!  I do hope the paed can give you some help with the reflux.  That might make all the difference.

Well, I'm kinda skeptical that it might make any difference, new meds that help sleep are just another fantasy of mine.  A girl can dream, right?! :)

60 minutes and counting... :)

My LO nearly a year now and we had the same wonky nap bit but i stuck with it as I felt he needed 2 naps still and wasn't ready for 2-1 and he has settled again and now will have 1 1/2 in morning but I am waking him at 1 hr and then 1 1/2 in afternoon.

Well, we made it to 75 minutes, back to her standard morning nap length.  Whew.  Now we'll see what 3.5 hours of A time does for the afternoon nap!  :)

Hugs, Nicola.  This age is a funky time for sleep.  I think this is when Maren ended her EWs that she had for about two months.... had I been more of a diligent BWer with her, I'd have sorted that out... but she at least waited to go to 1 nap until 14 months and it was a solid 2 hours.  Hayden's going to keep me guessing I'm sure!  She went down after 3.5 hrs A time with a half-hearted 30 seconds of mantra cry, and we're past the 45 minute mark just now, so I guess I need to be pretty strict with that.  I forget that Hayden's spirited/touchy temperament means I need to keep an eye on the clock more... Maren's angel/textbook temperament was a little more flexible.

Let's hope for a good night for all of us (but I'm not holding out hope for STTN!)  ;D

Fingers very tightly crossed for you!

Ciara was a touchy baby but stayed on 2 naps for ages and would still sleep every day if I let her and she is now 5.5!

Callie is angel with some textbook but has totally different sleep!

Hugs hun,

I too am wondering if this is all developmental.  Abi is still refusing to go down for an am nap, but some days will only nap for an hour in the afternoon  :o, thankfully yesterday was 2 hours.

Today we had an EW due to a leaky nappy  >:( so am going to aim for 2 naps.  Fingers crossed.

Thanks hun.  I have just put her down.  It is 3.5 hours A time, and all is quiet.  BUT that means nothing :P
