Please please please please help me.
« on: August 22, 2008, 08:30:56 am »
I'm sitting here again after 2 am typing another plea as I listen to my baby scream her face off. I can't take this anymore.

I tried REAL hard to keep her right on track today.

This is how our day looked,

9:00 Wake up and feed
10:12 Down for 1st nap.
12:12 up and feed
1:15 down for 2nd nap
3:20 up and feed
4:30 down for another smaller nap
5:30 up and a little feed
6:30 down for a catnap
8:00 up
8:30 feed
DOES NOT GO BACK TO SLEEP. IT IS NOW 2:30 IN THE MORNING AND SHE IS SCREAMING.

What am I doing wrong? I can't take this anymore. Please help me. Should I have only let her nap for an hour and half rather than 2 hours during the day?

Oh big hugs to you, so understand your frustration!  At her age she is likely to sleep alot, hence the 4 naps but also at this age they are still getting to grips with night and day, not great for you!

I used to find that my son would cry and scream from about 5 till 9 everynight around and just rode it out to be honest, cos I didn't know what else to do!

When you are putting her down for a nap is she really sleepy?

big big hugs to you - this must be horrible for you. Does your LO use a dummy, swaddle??
I know some people are really against dummies but I have to say that this young age - I had loads of problems with my LO crying from about 8 in the evening til 11. It is awful. We drove her round, rocked her, nothing worked but a dummy did..
Try not to let them go to sleep with it in their mouth (creates lots of problems later on) - but see if it works..  At this young age I don't think it is going to be your routine during the day - as it looks fine..
Big hugs - let us know how it goes..

Well I have found that if she stays up longer than an hour at a time it's waaaay harder to put her to sleep. Whereas if I wrap her up right close to an hour after waking she goes down for her nap super easy...

She kind of takes a sucky, but when she starts screaming she won't and she won't nurse either. And for some reason when it hits late evening all she does is scream :( :(

Reena1024 more hugs to you. Does your LO have problems bringing wind? Maybe it's colic which is worse at night instead of dueing the day? I now that one sounds silly but my DS'1 had colic but it was something called night colic which is hardly heard off. A dummy might work I had to give in to what I wanted with my DD and give her a dummy but most definately don't let them fall a sleep with it in there mouth as it does course more problems later down the line. Does LO have any signs of relux? This is also worse in some babies at night. Please let us know how you get on and don't panic about asking for help we are here for you

Sounds like you are doing a good job with watching her cues.

Could be colic.  You can ease a bit of wind out by having your baby lying on their back and then gently lifting the legs and doing cycle movements with them, helps to push wind out. Have you tried anything like Infacol?

I used a dummy and my son had it until he was just under 2 1/2 for sleeping, it was his lovie, yes it does calls probs like getting up to plug them back in but I just restricted it to sleeps and the odd time when he was really wound up and needed to relax and had no major problems.

I just wanted to chime in here. I had a little one with colic - and this is what it sounds like. It is AWFUL. I will not have a second child in fear of having another colicky baby. It lasted 4 mos - so it DOES end.

I can tell you what did work for us.

First - you cannot sleep train a colicky baby, so let it go. BW has some great tips for colicky babies, as does the book the Happiest Baby on the Block. That book SAVED MY LIFE.

Swaddle, swaddle, swaddle. Even if it seems like your LO does not like it, swaddle. There were some days my LO did not get out of her swaddle unless we changed her.
Lots of white noise - static on the tv or radio, a humidifier, a fan - all day long, but especially when sleeping.
Darkness - get some room darkening shades if you do not have them already.
Motion, motion and more motion. I had the stroller in the house, or you could wear your LO in a sling.
My DD does not take a paci either, but would during her colic fits.

In the middle of one of her colicky fits, we would do this - swaddle, make sure she was in a dark room with white noise, repeatedly said sshh, sshh, sshh (as LOUD as she was crying), held her sideways with her facing outwards, and jiggled her around in our arms. If at this point she'll take a paci, give it to her. This would settle her down within minutes, and sometimes enough to get her to go to sleep, or DH and I would take turns, and sometimes we ended up rocking her in the stroller til she fell asleep.

You have to make sure she is swaddled first, and in a dark room for the rest of the steps to work.

The good news is it DOES end around 3-4 mos old and does not come back.

HUGS, and Good luck!!!!!

I used the washing machine to care my DS#2 down when he was having a crying episode. Is this in the white noise list? I could never understand why it had that effect on him but it did. I would just strap him into his car-seat and sit it infront of the washineing machine and put it on to do a wash load or just a clean the machine wash and by the time it had finished washing he would be fast a sleep. Colic does go like previous post said but it can continue until they are weaning onto solids if LO is bfed
