BM On Alimentum
« on: August 22, 2008, 22:27:59 pm »
Okay, so Hudson started Alimentum today, his bum was getting clear of the diaper rash from all the diarhea from his taste with eggs.  He is getting 1oz Alimentum and 5oz Rice Milk.  His BM's have been getting runny and runnier.  His bum rash is starting to get worse again.  From what I gather from Google the runny bm's on Alimentum is normal?  Is this right?  If it is how do I prevent a rash?  I already have been sloping on the Penaten for the last week.  I don't know what else to do.

Ahh okay, thanks.  I'm glad, I hope it does get better.  He seems more cranky too, but I'm guessing it may upset his tummy for a bit?

Yeah, he was on Rice Milk before, so he was perfect before, so anything different is new to me.  :)

Melanie:  I just had this awful feeling about the Alimentum.  You know I have been right there with you (well you know what I mean) from the time you were on formula, to goats milk, then to rice milk, the eggs, wheat, etc.

Runnier poo's are normal though, so it is hard to tell with him.

Really though if he got the runny poo's like that and is crankier fro just 1 oz. in each bottle, I would return what you can and get the Neocate.  Really.  He just has such a long history and list of allergies.

Like you said he was perfect on the rice milk, no excema, normal poop, good mood.

Neocate is just made from amino acids.  It has all the nutrients in it they need.  Now unless you think there is a corn allergy???  If that is the case, rice milk is the only thing for him.

You want know until you try though.  I would give Neocate a try and those links I gave you before, show you the different Neocate's for age 1 and up.

Hugs hun!!  WEndy

Well he seems better today in the poops department.  However I am noticing redness and dryness on his cheeks and I so hope his eczema is not coming back....  I have no idea if he has a corn allergy, never tried it.  I will see how tomorrow goes.  Today I upped it to 2oz of Alimentum and will continue that for tomorrow just to see what happens.  Oh and it stinks, I hate Alimentum, the smell reminds me of bad cream of mushroom soup.

Are you using the powder Alimentum?  It has corn syrup solids in it for the carboyhdrate, since it does not have lactose.

Same with the Neocate.

Even if he did have a corn allergy, he should be okay with it in formula's.

The only formula that does not contain corn is Alimentum Ready to Feed.

Yeah it does stink, but the Neocate smells worse.

I hope everything goes okay.

Hugs, Wendy

oh good.  The ready to feed is better in my opinion. The reason why you may have noticed the runny poops at first is because instead of using corn syrup solids as the carbohydrate, they use Sucrose.

Some lo's have problems with sucrose like they do lactose.  It can cause gas and diaherra.  So his body may just needed time to adjust to it.

I really hope he can handle it.
