Mummy Milk
« on: September 10, 2008, 17:44:56 pm »
My toddler has become obsessed with the fact that I now have Mummy Milk - she keeps getting my boobs out!!

Am thinking she's going to regress once this baby decides to appear!

She loves pulling at my top saying "Mummy Milk" and I keep asking her who it is for "Baby" she nods!!!

How cute!

It's not unusual for a sibling to have this fascination or a even ask to feed out of curiosity or to find out if they 'could'. Some mums choose to express a little for their LO to taste or even offer the breast or have 'big girl' alternatives on offer. I would just think through your responses now! Not long!

{{hugs}} hun.  That is sweet that milk is for baby.  :)

Just my experience, J was 21 months when Isaac was born & had stopped bf'ing at 14 months.  He stared a lot when nursed & seemed fascinated by the whole process, but he didn't ask to try any.  Mostly it was, "You feed I-gak?"  :)  "Yes, honey."

I'd 2nd thinking thru what you might do.  With my spirited almost-2-year-old, it was mostly a matter of how to keep him occupied while I was nursing...  ::)

ditto on how to keep #1 occupied while nursing, lol!

We didn't have any issues on wanting to taste it, but we talked a lot about mommy's milk is for baby before born, and got a book about "our new baby" that shows mom bfing.   He was 2 1/4 when DD was bron, and he nursed till 18 mo, so almost a year had passed and he didn't seem to really remember he used to nurse, which surprised me.

That said, he does from time to time ask to see the milk (ie wants me to squeeze the nipple to show him), even now (DD is 5 mo old) and unfortunately he is articulate enough to tell anyone he happens to think needs to know that "milk comes from mommy's nipple", and "she uses that big black machine on her nipple and it gush gushes and milk comes out in the bottle to save for later."  So, on the subject of thinking it trhough, also think about what vocabulary you want your lo to use, and possibly tell the whole world.....

Good luck! And congrats!  :-*

If you haven't given your lo a baby doll then you may want to do that.  DD fed her baby or stuffed animal while I fed our baby.  This didn't last long but it was a good transition.

Ditto on the vocabulary.  Mine says "boob" all the time and wants to show them (mine not hers)to everyone.  We have talked about we don't show our boobs to people which is good because I see other little girls lifting their shirts and I don't want to encourage that so i guess it did have a different benefit.

My DD1 was 28 months when DD2 was born and she nursed until she was 22 months.  She didn't have a memory of nursing, but she did ask to try breastfeeding on a couple occasions.  I decided to let her try it, and she attempted to latch on, then got a funny look on her face like, "This isn't right somehow" and then said, "I will drink my chocolate milk from my cup".

Sophie was 14 months when Mae arrived.  She wanted to try so I offered.  I didn't really want her nursing as it just didn't seem "right" as we'd had a large gap but I didn't want jealousy issues either and I figured that if she liked it, what the hell, I could deal with it!  As it happens like Emma said, she was just testing the water to see if she "could".  She leant down, poked her tounge out, and licked my nipple.  Then she started laughing!

I donate breast milk but if I want to pump for the milk bank, I have to make sure Sophie's not around as she always wants the milk that I express.   So she has tasted it and likes it A LOT!  She has between 4-6oz per day!
