No letdown in the morning...
« on: September 14, 2008, 13:54:13 pm »
Has anyone else experienced this?  When ds wakes for his first feed and I roll out of bed (all stiff and sleepy) to feed him, my breasts are full of milk and he is sucking ravenously...  but there is no letdown for this feed!  So weird!  He literally pulls all the milk down by hard work and perseverance.  I was thinking maybe it has something to do with the stress hormones our bodies produces when we have to get out of bed and get going for the day?  Just curious if I'm the only weirdo out there!   ;D

I'm thinking that you are actually having a letdown but that it just isn't the sensation you are used to as you are more engorged and he may be feeding more enthusiastically. You do actually need a letdown for him to get a full feed he wouldn't be able to actually pull down all the milk as you suggest.
It's quite common for the sensation of letdown to vary during the day. Usually letdown is more obvious when the breasts are fuller but not for everyone. With later babies it can feel very different and often disappear entirely for some people. Some people never feel it but it's certainly there if there are breastfeeding successfully.
