Ear plugs for 3 year old?
« on: September 20, 2008, 13:38:37 pm »
Hi,

My 3 year old DD hears EVERY little noise outside and it wakes her up. She hears every train, car or motorcycle within 3 km!

Has anyone out there ever tried ear plugs for a 3 year old? I know they sell them for swimming etc for little ones.

DS a bit the same, especially in the a.m.  We use a fan in his room to drown out any noise. Upon going to sleep I put on a relaxation cd for him, or he hears the neighbours mowing their lawns etc...Never thought of ear plugs as I think he woudl pull them out all the time as he doesn't even like to wear a hat and he is such monkey, knowing him he woudl try to bite it or something and I would be all paranoid he could choke....lol!

A x

Well, the problem is that she is scared of everything. She is scared of the fan and hates music on. I was thinking of the ear plugs as a last resort. I went and bought some this am, so we'll see if she likes them.

I'm also going to try and put some foam in her window (the kind you put on your mattress) and see if that blocks out some of the noise.

Thanks!

Or maybe a sheet of polystyrene (styrofoam) on the window?

Once she starts, she will never stop. I am so addicted to them. I CANNOT sleep without them AT ALL. They get lost all the time, I sometimes forget to buy new ones, etc.

I'd try everything else first  :-\

I use them

http://www.ohropax.de

They are shapeable (is that a word?)  (you can make them big so that they don't get too deep inside) and you can make them as big or small as you wish.

I too am addicted. Started wearing them about 3 years ago as we lived in a really noisy place with loads of late night and early morning construction. Now I cant sleep without them even when it's quiet. Last time I looked I had about 8 under my pillow as I lose them during the  night. I use ones very similar to the ohropax soft and I bulk buy when I find them as they are very difficult to find here and dh brings the ones home from the plane when he takes a long trip. Even if I lie on the couch during quiet time I have to have them and have some in my desk drawer.
Please try something else first if you can. You dont want to be running in replacing them or looking for them in the middle of the night.
