My little Grace is spirited  ;D

When babies are getting use to independent sleep and routine transitions it's normal for them to wake and go back to sleep, etc.  That's great that you didn't go in.  Only ever go in if he's crying the "I need you mommy" cry.  ;) Otherwise it might disturb his sleep.
You are doing a great job.

After a somewhat restless nap, maybe aim for about 15 min. less for A time the next go round, but watch for cues too.  Always make sure you start your wind down before he starts showing tired signs and is in bed before getting OT.

Okay, he is still asleep and its 12.30.  This means my little monkey has been asleep solidly now for another 2hrs, totalling his nap to about 3.30hrs.  Is he sick? This is just weird.  Has your baby ever slept this long?

2 hours is GREAT!!!
Way to go.

I'd wake him up at the 2 hour mark.
Anything past two hours, they have a tendency to get confused with night time sleep.

I hope the rest of your day and night go well.

Wohooo!!! Brilliant, brilliant news.  My little man is now in a regular pattern of about 2hr+ in the morning an about 1hr+ naps in the arvo.  He is much happier and so am I.

Thank you so much for all of your support.  It has helped me to understand my baby so much more and know what to do when he starts to spiral into overtired land.

Thank you, thank you.
Hugs.

We are back to 45min sleeps today...oh well not as bad as 30min sleeps.  I think it was either undertiredness (Itried cutting his first wake time short cause he woke up early in the morning so didn't have a full nights sleep.  It may have also been the heat, it's hot today!!

Thanks again

Don't worry too much.
There are unfortunatly always going to be days when something goes a bit out of whack.  There's always tomorrow  ;) ;) ;)

Keep up the great work!

Thanks so much your encouragement.  I've really needed it!  I was beginning to feel like I didn't know my own baby at all.  I expected about 7 months I should :)

Hmmm, when can you tell the difference between an overtired 45min nap and undertired 45min nap?  If they wake after 45min blowing raspberries, would you suggest undertiredness? If they wake up after 45min and go back to sleep off and on for 10min here and there, would you say they were overtired and therefore unable to resettle..

How do you tell the difference? We have had 3 days of 45min naps and I'm failing to tell whether to keep him up longer or less cause I can't tell whether he is overtired or undertired.  He is such a TOUCHY, TOUCHY, TOUCHY baby....

I would say that if your lo wakes up and is blowing raspberries and is happy and seems really well rested, I would say that's UT - in need of more A time.

If your lo is waking up going back to sleep, waking up going back to sleep it could be your lo trying really hard to get through the learning process of independent sleep and possibles slightly UT.

Overtired is usually around 30 min. and they usually wake up unhappy, but not always.

When he's been waking up at the 45 min. mark the past 3 days has it been every nap?
How did he wake up most of the time?

He is mainly waking up grizzly.  Probably twice he woke up sounding really awake and cheerful.  I'm so unsure of how much wake time though.  I've been varying about 2-2.15hrs and he is still waking up 45mins later, crying and grizzling.  I think I need to chart again to see any patterns forming.  I will keep you posted.  Thanks again...

P.S Todays routine was:
8.40 -  wake and feed (later than usual because of day light savings beginning)
9.40 - solids
10.00 - really grizzly - off to bed with usual wind down.
12.45 - Wake - I know - brilliant - solids (we are starting to reverse the order)
1.45 - Bottle
2.10 - grizzling again - wind down and bed.  It took much longer for him to get to sleep this time, waking up with in 10min to have a tiny grizzle then back to sleep
3.00 - wake - left for a bit to see if he would resettle
3.45 - up and bottle
5.20 - solids
6.00 - bath
6.30 - bottle
6.50 - wind down and bed.

With his 12.45 wake time, I wanted to try and end him to at least 2.30, but when he was grizzling, I thought 'it worked last time, why not put him to bed again'.  He has been a little unwell with a cold over the last couple of days, so I thought it was best to go with his tired signs abit more....geez was I wrong this afternoon.  We had some NW last night which is a first for about 4 months.  He would wake and grizzle and go to sleep for 10, wake and grizzle.  Did this for about 2hrs from 2-4am.....I know, fun.  We tried shhh and patting but leaving him worked best in the end because the cry wasn't really emotional...

The short 2nd A time is probably why it took him a bit to fall asleep and he woke after just a bit....just wasn't tired.
Grizzly could mean other things and not necessarily sleep each time which can be hard to decifier.
And, then he was up for 4 hours after a short nap which is probably why he had some NWings.

Next time if that happens you could give him another nap and then a slightly later bedtime so that he's not OT.
