Over the past few weeks, my lo has been waking around 4:30 every morning and is very restless and fidgety until his first feeding, which is usually around 6:30/7:00 a.m. I have a hard time settling him back to sleep and so I am then up every morning at 4:30 and the days are getting longer and longer.
He is breastfed and feeds every 3 hours. We are working on the naps, but right now, they're being interrupted by the 45 minute monster! He goes to bed each night around 7:00 p.m. and I dream feed him at 11:00, although sometimes he actually wakes for this feeding before I get to him, maybe around 10:45 or so. Then he usually eats again around 3:00 a.m. At 4:30, the fun begins. I usually just give him his paci, but he continually spits it out or it falls out and then that wakes him again. I am trying to get away from using that, but at 4:30 a.m., I'll do anything! I also shush him and over the past couple of nights, I have just been putting my hands on his chest and legs, holding him down a little while he jumps and if he's really worked up, I jiggle my hand a little bit on his chest and that seems to help settle him. He does NOT like to be patted. He often seems really gassy at this time and I don't know what to do to help with that. It seems odd though that he would always be gassy at the same time everyday, so I don't think that's the reason for his wakings. Any thoughts? By the way, some mornings, he barely eats his first feed and seems completely satisfied with just a "snack." I wonder if he even needs the 3:00 feed. Should I be trying wake to sleep to see if he's just having habitual wakings?
