That is hilarious! Think of the quantities you would need to produce the milk!!! I say if anyone has that much going spare PUT IT IN A MILK BANK. Preemies need it more than ice-cream lovers!!!!!

I'm going to assume a crazy publicity stunt to bring attention to issues and not a serious suggestion.

LOL!!!! I agree Emma, breast milk is for babies, and all those preemies would benefit much more, and I cant imagine many people being keen to consume others breastmilk or is that just me lol.

Seems like an april fools day joke lol!

Stacy you crack me up lol!

Seriously, I spend FAR too much time with my pump as it is lol!  Can you imagine all those mothers in third world countries sat hooked up to hospital grade pumps just so their family can eat?  Crikey, the mind boggles!  And that's not even considering the fact that HIV and other nasties can be passed on through breast milk...

Great idea in theory but it would never, ever work!  Certainly an entertaining read though :P

ummmm i read the article and burst out laughing.

this is the funniest thing i have heard in a long time. i am sure there are alot of grown people out there would seriously gag at the thought of consuming a strangers breastmilk that was ultimatly intended for a baby.

I mean seriously, what else are people going to come up with? will wonders never cease.

lol

This has got to be, as Emma supposes, not a serious request but simply a ploy to bring attention to issues.

FWIW, DH once tried to make ice cream from my milk, and it was awful.  Have I mentioned how weird my DH can be? ::)

I think industrial dairy cows produce about 8 gallons of milk in a day.  We'd have to feed human women some wicked doses of hormones to get even a quarter of that!

 :-X

My local pharmacy will buy bm from you and put it in their face creams. Not really too sure about that either. I mean, my own's one thing but somebody elses? Ick.

EWWWW!!  Breastmilk face cream?  Isn't that illegal anyway, trafficking in human fluids?  Guess it depends where you live.

What a stunt for PETA to pull, not likely to make them very popular with BF advocates.  Personally I told DH it would be GREAT if the world had enough BM left over for stuff like ice cream - AFTER all the preemies and lo's whose moms can't produce have had their fill.

OK, here goes:

Cows' milk is primarily for baby cows. We eat it anyway, but one reason so many people have a hard time digesting it is because we're not baby cows, AND WE'RE NOT BABY ANYTHINGS! :)

Human milk is for baby humans. Nobody here on this board IS a baby human.

Milk is nice, and if you can consume it without digestive issues, I'm jealous of you. (I LOOOOOVE ice cream, just not the results. :P  :-X)

I also don't relish the idea of eating ice creammade from the breast milk of women selling it because they already don't make enough money otherwise to eat healthy diets.  :-\ Kind of defeats the purpose of switching from cows' milk for me.

JMHO.....

I think there would be a lot of legal issues, having to do with screening of the donors (like you do when you pay for blood donations, etc).  With cows, there is a certain amount of regulation regarding what they ingest, so those of us who drink cow's milk don't get medications and (hopefully!) extra hormones or whatever. I just can't see it being possible to regulate. Plus, hard to get the amounts necessary, and I definitely think that milk banks, preemies, would be much better recipients of the extra milk, as already suggested/

That said...in terms of the "ick" factor....well, if this became a common practice, maybe it'd be less icky...

hmm..shocked about the cows welfare...didnt know they were purposefully kept pregnant like that..BUT there certainly would be alot of issues surrounding it and obviously it would be a whole new ethical arguement over human rights...

It must be a publicity stunt!  ::)
