I think you may have replied on my thread about NW in my spirited baby. Things seem to be going from bad to worse here. Last night was horrific (particularly as i had my first night out so had  a late night and was a little groggy from too much wine!) - he was up most of the night on and off and we ended up sleeping in till 9 which has totally thropwn out the 4 hr esay today and he has only done 20min cat naps so expecting even worse tonight. I'm afraid we gave in to the dummy after 2 nights of ditching it when he was just back to the hourly wakings without it. I know we should probably try ditching it and be really firm but we're both so tired and afriad his crying will wake our toddler that we can't bring oursleves to do it. Maybe I should start with daytime naps without the dummy and work from there.......

Really pleased your lo is lseeping through now - i wish i could see the light at the end of the tunnel for us!

Very sadly, no longer. We are having a horrific week with him not settling for any sleeps at all without crying and screaming either the minute I lie him down in his cot, or a few minutes after. He swings from laughing one minute to crying the next (Touchy baby). He's cried so hard in the past few days that he's made himself all hoarse and he sounds like he's losing his voice :'(

Tried our first PUPD tonight; took about an hour. Not sure if I should have done it; will post about this separately.

Trying to find the light at the end of the tunnel myself I'm afraid.

Monopod, just curious if your name is a reference to C.S. Lewis' one-footed Duffelpuds in Voyage of the Dawn Treader...  :)

Afraid it isn't quite that literary. It's a nickname DH gave me because I am notoriously apt to overbalance. *whoops there we go again* ;)

Sorry you are back to bad NW's again - see my other thread - last night was the worst night yet for us!

Sorry to hear it helen :( Last night was actually *good* for NWs after we finally got him to settle for the night - one at 1.10am when it took about 30-35mins of PU/PD to get him back down, and once just after 4 when I fed him. Then he woke at around 7.30am!

It's just taken about 6 mins of PU/PD to get him down for his first nap today. I shall persevere and hope that the 'really bad' bit of PU/PD that I apparently have to expect doesn't make us all cry.

What has made you go for PU/PD rather than shush pat? Maybe we need to try that? The S/P seemed to wind him up at certain points last night. Are you still dummy free?

S/P wasn't working anymore and was getting him more agitated - if I shushed louder, he got louder and more hysterical, and if I shushed softly it didn't work! The pat has been annoying him for some time now and we've been doing a modified version anyway (shh-stroke).

Still dummy-free. DH asked whether we shouldn't give it back last night when everyone was upset from the PU/PD, but I'm determined not to backtrack. It would be a short-term gain and only give us more problems in the longer term.

Absolutely!!  Don't give it back, you'll get there.  :-*
