Wondering if this is the start of 2-1naps, need info
« on: September 28, 2008, 14:48:57 pm »
My lo has thrown in the odd day of not taking his first nap very well, like today. He always has been a ew, something we've never cured so as he wakes 4.30/5am he is often ready for 1st nap at 8/8.30am. He will sleep 1-2hrs and take another nap around 1pm for the same length of time. BUt today despite showing his tired signs at 8am he just would not stop shouting and standing in his cot. It went quiet for like 10mins at 8.30am but after that he was awake. I didn't know what to do so as he wasn't distressed or crying I left him to it. I went in twice to hand him back his blankie (new fave game involves throwing it out of the cot ::)). Eventually at 9.45am it went quiet!!! I was convinced he would wake after 30mins from being ot but he didn't until 11.15 I was really suprised. So after this I didn't know what time to put him down this afternoon, come 2pm he was looking very tired so I put him down. At 2.15pm it all went quiet, but at 2.35pm he was babbling again! I left him for another hour but he is definetly awake so now he's up and happy ::) God knows what later on will bring, the ot monster may rear its ugly head but he's really happy at the moment. Any ideas what happened today or if its a 2-1 nap switch starting?

It could be.  Have you read this yet?  http://babywhispererforums.com/index.php?topic=95670.0  Also, at that age ds was doing about 4hrs of A time.  Have you tried tweaking the routine?

I did read that link thanks, I went to the FAQ before posting but still wasn't sure if this was really it as it hasn't happened consistantly. Ds does do around 4hrs A time too.

He remained cheery this afternoon but as 5pm approached you could see he was flagging. I cut my losses and gave him tea/bath etc a but earlier. He was zonko in his cot by 5.45pm bless him. When this happens we usually get a screaming wake up later on as he is so tired and gets fustrated at not going right back to sleep so we will see.....

DS did this as well.  It's almost as if his body and mind are at odds with each other:  is it just a nap or is it night sleep?  What I did to transition ds was keep the better nap and limit the other nap so I can still fit in 2 naps.  TBH, transistioning ds wasn't as simple as transitioning dd.  Just when I thought things were going as planned, he changed on me and I have to rethink my plan/strategy.  But I don't want to scare you.  Your lo might be easier.

Also, during this time you may have to go with flow some days.
