Our Potato challenge - Unreal!!!
« on: September 28, 2008, 21:03:35 pm »
Well for those of you who have thought about going to a Naturopath doctor and just was not sure if that approach really does work.  I can assure you it does!!

We were told after 3 weeks to re-challenge Tyler on potato's.  His body would have had time to build up the proper amount of digestive enzyme's and maybe could now break that food down properly.

She said to re-challenge it.  Watch for: digestive upset, mood, physical or mental affects.

Well yesterday we gave him 2 french fries and it was UNREAL!!!!!  About 4 hours after having the food, you have though someone gave some drugs or something.  He was uncontrolable.  All he did was scream like someone was cutting his head off.  His tummy did not seem upset, no gas.

I guess since he body could not break down the potato protein properly, it was absorbed into his blood stream causing him to just go nuts.

Today he is back to normal, thank God!

Never ever ever again.

Poor guy...I think Zoey brought up a good point though. For example, doesn't McD's fries contain milk etc? Different additives etc might be on other fries, plus depending what they are cooked in etc. Might be worth trialling again sometime in the future with some homemade ones.

But yeah, if it were me, I would just not try again for a long time.

Do you know why they suggested 3 weeks?

Yeah McDonald's does contain milk, but he is actually okay with milk (hidden) now.

It was actually from a country resturant and they made them homemade, but could have been the oil fried in, but I really don't think so.

The Naturopath said that it would take 3 weeks the digestive enzyme's to build back to the highest level possible.  If he was able to handle the food, then we would know then.  He could handle it in small amounts, but in our case NOPE.  I mean it was 1.5 little french fries.

Today back to normal!!!  We have not had a crying spell like that since we stopped potato's.

He is a big boy, but the Ped actually told me at his 1 yr check-up he needed to eat more and gain more weight :-0 WTF...

He dropped in his %.  He is still 50%.  I guess he was living off fruit and vegetables and needed more.

I bet he has gained 1 or 2 pounds though in the last 2 weeks.  Now since we can pretty much feed him whatever, well minus pototos.

:)  Thanks.

Yeah he was 5lbs 14 oz. when born and dropped to 5lb 6 oz.

The Ped just thought based on his huge amount of growth since he was a baby, she thought he would be bigger.

He is walking and is so active now.

He weighs 23, almost 24 pounds.  Very tall also.

I don't think she was saying his was underweight or anything like that, she was just saying that he is a very hungry baby that loves to eat and we need to feed him.

That is why we started wheat, dairy, soy whatever back and he has been great.  He eats whatever we eat and some.

Still drinking his nutramigen formula though.
