Could oat cereal cause a rashy reaction?
« on: September 28, 2008, 22:16:22 pm »
Hi there I posted this on the Feedling Solid Food forum without response so I am now trying here.

We started oat cereal on Friday and by Friday arvo there was a red rashy area around lo's anus. Not sure if it was because of the oats or not. I have kept on with them for Sat and Sunday and red area still there but not getting any bigger, that is why I haven't stopped it.

Should mention that lo is 7 months and this is the 1st cereal he has had, up till now just fruit and veg.

Any thoughts?
Thanks
Alison

When I first saw this post title, I was going to say YES YES YES, but then I read it.

My little one gets a really bad rash on his cheeks with oats.  It is really hot to touch, has blisters, it is awful.

How bad is the red ring around his butt?  That can sometimes be the only sign of an allergy, but it can also be from trying to poop or to much acid in the poop.

Is he fussy or has his mood changed any?

If it were me, I would try rice cereal first.  That normally is a more gentle one for babies first cereal.

hi Wendy
He hasn't changed one bit, totally the same. The red around his butt is looking a bit angry but then again he is pooping a lot more these days as he's just gone onto 3 meals a day, so maybe that's all it is?

It could be from all the poops.

Just try removing it for a while and see if the red clears up.  If so, try it again.
