10 week old wakes up at 3am every night
« on: September 30, 2008, 20:00:56 pm »
??? my little one has roughly been on the 3 hour easy since day one, he was 8llbs 9oz when born and is now 10 weeks old and weights roughly 13llbs.

we took the dummy away last week as it was causing too many night wakings, on average he eats about 5oz - 7oz of hungry baby formula each feed and we do a cluster feed at 5pm and 7pm and then dream feed between 10.30pm - 11.00pm.

unfortunately he keeps waking at 3am, he will then down roughly 4oz-6oz of milk and sleep until 6.30am where he will only eat a few oz and then gets up, sometimes he is not hungry at all and you have to fight to get food into him. My question is when can we expect him to go longer in the night, we have only been able to get him to go to 4am once and never really seems that hungry when he first wakes up. I have tried to stretch out his day feeds to 31/2 hours but sometimes he can barely wait the 3 hours

I am also struggling to get him to take reasonable naps during the day which we are working on at the moment and i have a thread on the nap page....

I don't know if this is much help but my LO is nearly 10 weeks and on a very similar routine and often wakes at 3am as well.  Some nights he might go till 4am but it doesn't seem anything I do i.e. changing timing of cluster feeds or DF changes this.  I think at this age this is still to be expected to an extent and that they will go longer when their little tummies can go for longer without food.

Kezia - is he waking at exactly 3am every night? If so you could try W2S if it's habitual -...  if it's "about" 3am and you think he's hungry, then as louiemum says that may well be par for the course for his age - my LO had a DF and a feed around 3-4am until she was about 3-4 months old.

If you sort the naps out that may help too - better daytime sleep usually leads to better night time sleep
