tell me if I have created a monster
« on: October 08, 2008, 19:41:11 pm »
All,

Everyone I am sure by now is familiar with out story of a poor sleeper.

Anyways, not sure how but over the last week or so DS and w have crated a pattern where he sleeps fine between 7:30-8pm wakes up, sort of between 5-5:30am and then I bring him to our bed and he goes straight to sleep till 6:30 even 6:45.

Now I am sure some of you can only imagine how empowering it feel to get more than 5 hrs of sleep every night...

BUT - do you think this is all wrong? him coming into our bed every morning? Personally we don;t mind the morning cuddle, but of course I don't want to continue bad habits....if they are bad...IYKWIM

would appreciate all thoughts...

well...it's kinda up to how you handle it right? Does he sleep in a BBB? I remember reading somewhere that Tracy recommended going to their bed if need be vs. them coming into yours.

But IMHO, if you're okay with it, do what you can to get those few extra hours...I can't imagine it lasting until he's 18!

thanks daybyday, thats part of the problem that he is still in a crib so I can't cuddle with him there, and we are thinking of a BBB, but was not sure i want to disrupt life.

Those extra hrs this week have been such a blessing leading to less snapping between DH and I (sad sleep deprived lives)..might carry on with it and like you say some day he will grow out of it..

Hi sweetie,

It's only a bad habit if YOU think it is... I know plenty of families that do the same, and if it works and you all get more sleep that way, then IMO it can't be bad if it's doing good.
Also if you enjoy the morning cuddle (I know I would if my DD would lie still in our bed more than 5 seconds ::) ) then just enjoy it and don't worry about it. As Marie (daybyday) said, it won't last forever. Also when you do fee ready to move to a BBB you could start going in with him instead and get him used to staying in his own bed that way. I can't see why you would have to hurry and get him in one now though.
You've worked so hard to get him to sleep this well and I think you deserve to enjoy the extra hrs you can get, and enjoy those cuddles too.

Thanks Vicku apprecaite you and Marie (sorry I am crap at remmebring names) endorsing our behaviours. Actually  we both love the morning cuddles, DS takes turn to cuddle with me and then with DH :D

and in some ways its really precious time as he is already getting too big for me to carry around...so I value us cuddling in bed....

I agree , the cuddles and extra hours sleep are precious so if you are happy with the arrangement then stick with it . I used to go into LO's bed too because we had the reflux monster visit  ::) when he wasn't in pain he would sleep longer and I didn't need to go in , the same may happen for you ( i know reflux is not an issue for you )and you're LO's sleeping patterns will change and he will sleep longer in the a.m . Enjoy the cuddles  :-*

Just chiming in support and agreement mukta. This is a big step for you guys - congrats on him finally sleeping new, that is wonderful. He is only going to be little for a short time and if this is working for all of you then I would go with it too.

I know that you had probs before if you brought him in bed in the middle of the night then you couldn't get any sleep. Maybe be clear with yourselves (between you and dh) what the limits are for you, ie only for EWs and not for NWs if that is what you want to do.

Like pp's said, enjoy the closeness, ds is probably really enjoying it. hugs hon, keep sleeping!

Didnt Tracey used to say something about "if it aint broke, dont fix it" ?

Well hun, if for you, this is ok and you re happy then dont worry about it! Enjoy it! Obviously if you do feel sleep deprived and need your own bed while you re in it then thats when its a problem thaat may need fixing.  I agree with what Stacy says about it getting earlier - but if it does then you can cross that bridge if and when you come to it hun, for now, if you re ernjoying it then there is no problem i dont think!  :-*

you ladies are the best> you have made me feel so much better.

We do have strict rules. If DS is up before 5am its WI/WO but totally take your point Stacy and Vicki, I will need to look out if this is getting earlier and earlier and nip it in the bud if it does.

Lets see how it goes. Tonight has been a tough night and DS would not sleep as we are in the middle of potty training and he could not bear to wee in the nappy!!! so the morning sleep will be even more precious.

But thanks a ton ladies, really appreciate your thoughts, helps me feel a lot more confident abt what my gut says :D
