3 months old DS used to sleep through the night. Now that the weather is getting chillier he wakes up in the middle of the night completely soaked. We're currently using Pamper swaddlers size 2. What kind of disposable diapers (or others) do you recommend to keep him dry through the night?

I also started to feed him when he wakes up to get him sleepy once changed and I'm afraid it will turn into a habbit.

Thanks,
Tuty

First, we did the same diaper style/brand in the next size up.  We had to switch to Huggies overnights, eventually.  http://www.huggieshappybaby.com/products/index.aspx?uri=diapers/index.aspx&globnav=hhb  Looks like they might still be too big for your lo (depending on size).  You might put one of those over one of his regular ones.

I've also read about (haven't done) doing things like doubling up diapers, or even putting a maxi pad inside the diaper on the belly where their (whoever that was) leaks were worst.  Of course, you'd have to make sure he couldn't get to the pad to chew on it or something (zippered sleeper, sleep sacks, etc).

I have the same problem! my LO is almost 3 months and as she sleeps on her tummy, the pee leaks out the front. I had diapers left over from my oldest so one night I put her in a Pampers Baby Dry size 5 diaper!!!(the baby-dry ones hold massive amounts of pee, way more than the swaddlers) It looked hilarious, right up to her boobs, but it worked.....I have also tried doubling up, but the huge diaper worked way better. I should really take a picture of her in it!

DD became a HUGE wetter at a bit older age - we use Pampers Baby Dry 2 sizes bigger than her "daytime" size.  I find the Baby Dry absorbs more than the swaddlers or cruisers.

Have you tried overnight diapers?  Huggies makes them.

We used to be a Pampers family during the day and Huggies at night.  Makes me mad because Pampers would say, "you need to go up a size."  Na ah.  Especially when my lo was a tooooooon smaller than the weight requirement.

We do still give our little one milk before bed.  This obviously makes for a wet diaper during the night.  This might not work for you, but my dh has gotten very good at chaning our lo before he goes to bed.  She is used to it and usually goes back to sleep.  That or talks about some funny topics at that hour.   Then, we just use regular diapers and that seems to work.

Thanks very much for all your suggestions. I bought the flex baby dry in size 3 and we'll see how tonight goes. He's also a tummy sleeper, so it's easier to leak. DD was always sleeping on her back.

BTW, do you tighten the diaper around their belly? DS has a very sensitive skin so I keep it a little loose.

I just tighten it enough so the leg openings aren't gaping in case she poops (rarely happens, but you never know!) I also put it lower in the back and higher in the front b/c that's where the pee is going - finally last night she skipped her 5:00ish feeding and although the diaper was full, she never leaked!!! Maybe it won't last too long for your LO either.

We use Huggies night time diapers.  I have also noticed a difference as to where I put the fasteners.  I do have a boy, so maybe that make a difference, but I fasten them as high up on the diaper as I can (pretty tight.)  If lower, then there is less absorbent material below the fasteners.  Do I make sense?  Seems to help.  Also, depending where you are, babies r us sells diaper doublers that are like a maxi pad but w/o the sticky side.  I used them a long time before I switched to Huggies night time.  The diapers pull the wetness away from the skin better for us; less redness.

So, those are a few of our "discoveries."  lol  Don't know what we will do when he outgrows sz 6.  He is only 12 mo!  Not suer how the pull ups will go.

We use Huggies Overnights at night time, then we put a pair of "rubber pants" as my mum calls them over that.  Those plastic training pants, you know, that you would use for a toddler.  DS is 7 1/2 months, so he has a Size 4 Huggies, then a 12 mo. plastic training pant over that.  If the diaper leaks, the plastic training pants keep him from getting soaked.

Thanks EZ-EMom that's a fabulous idea, and I have tons b/c my toddler is toilet training right now. Always the obvious things that never occur to me! I'm going to try that tonight.

thanks for the idea again!

Second that!  Thanks for the the rubber pant idea, too.  Perhaps that will be the next step when he outgrows the sz 6 night times.  :-)
