We travel to a 6 hr time difference 4 or 5 times per year (between NY and Europe) and I find my ds (also spirited and sensitive) gets quite jet-lagged, though it really depends on the time of the flight. The best flight time (in case you haven't booked yet) is during the day, unless it is easy to get your lo to sleep on the plane. When we fly much into his normal bedtime, the jet lag is so much harder.
Are you flying west to east or the other way?
Basically when we fly Europe to US I have learned that we have to be prepared for a super duper early bedtime + wake up time on that first day, and keep extending it little by little every day. By super early, I mean a 3 or 4 pm bedtime and then he will wake up at 1 or 2 am - usually disoriented and crying. Trying to put him back to bed is worse, so we have to be really flexible at nighttime.
The next day we try to tweak his naps a little bit and follow his cues. We just returned from a trip to New York and on the 2nd day of this trip we did 2 naps following a 3 am wake up (Normally he sleeps from 12.30 to 3pm). Nap 1 was at about 8am till 9.30. Nap 2 was at about 2.30 til 5. Then bed at 8. For the next 2 nights he woke up for 30-45 min between 3 and 4 am but we kept very dim lights, snuggled with him, and managed to get him back after a while until about 7 am.
If I were you I would expect the first 4-5 days to be difficult, and try to be as flexible as you can.
If you are flying the other way (ex. US to Europe) then let me know, that is a different thing, and much easier IMO!
