Your toddler's favourite dvds
« on: November 02, 2008, 07:31:18 am »
For those of you whose LO's watch dvds what are their favourites? Leorah used to be Teletubbies mad but now she has turned 2 she only likes it in danish! She also likes Maisy Mouse which is great as it repeats lots of words. I'd really like to hear of dvds that encourage singing, dancing and jumping as she is a live wire and doesn't really sit and watch and they will be handy for days when the weather is really dismal.

Cheers, Katt  :)

I saw a commercial today.  Cought my attention.  Its the Fisher Price Star Station.  It has a micraphone and you plug the base into your tv, the kiddies sing and dance along to songs and can watch themselves on tv.  Looks like fun, thinking of getting it for christmas.

As for the dvd's Blues Clues, Sesame street. Barney has alot of interactive singing and dancing

at 2yo - Wiggles was the best for getting up and moving (our fave is an old double DVD set that has Yummy Yummy and Wiggle Time (IMO the best of the wiggles!)
for non-active but good for 2-3yo i recommend
Blue's Clues (learn sequencing and figuring things out)
Dora (alex picked up most of the spanish words and could count to 10 easily... from just watching dora)
Spot (the dog from all the books and DVDs...these are great cause they are super short so you can decide how many you want to watch or if she walks away it is not like she is missing anything as you can just pause or stop it and resume later with another short clip - i think they are only a few min each kind of like maisy)
Piglet's Big movie - all/most the songs are written and sung by carly simon and even my dh sings along - we are still watching this movie years later - i enjoy watching it with them

we did not have sesame street dvd's at that age but even at 3 and 5 my girls still enjoy sesame street so definitely recommend.

Oh thanks that's great. My brother is getting her The Wiggles for Xmas. She absolutley adores Elmo and Sesame Street. She watches Dora on danish TV and it is one dvd I'd like to get in danish as she speaks danish obviously and english too and in the first one she gets her rucksack and they make a big deal of it speaking danish and english just like Dora (and Leorah!), can't find it in danish though. She has a Spot dvd but doesn't like it as much as Maisy but I love those 5 minute episodes! My mum has been given a video of Blues Clues from a friend so I loook forward to seeing if she likes that.

I also have a dvd recommendation , it is called Boo and it by BBC, it has lots of singing and dancing and copying the movements of animals, Leorah LOVES it.

Aidliz that FP thing sounds interesting but sounds like it would be very expensive here as all the FP stuff is so I think I'd like to try it out and see if she liked it first, perhaps they'll have one set up in Toys R Us. Actually with Leorah's obsession with watching herself I am sure it would be a success!

Deb, is Pooh in that Piglet movie? WThe Disney Winnie the Pooh movie is like magic, it is the only video that Leorah has sat and watched mesmerised, I save it for when I really need some peace and quiet!!

we liked boo  too- we have a couple of the books too.

all the characters are in the piglet movie - it is just that he is the focus of it.  it was the first movie alex got as a gift and has been watched loads of times.  we love piglet's big movie, heffalump (for older) and Tigger's movie too.  all fanatstic!

I'm hopping on here for some advice too. We want to get Lois some more english DVDs over christmas when we're there. Saying that, our DVD player is still broke :(
On tv she really likes Dora at the moment and in swedish it's really good as for the spanish they talk english instead, so good for both her swedish and her english lg.
Wiggles sound fun! She does copy if she sees dancing on tv now, so something like that would be great.

Vick I bet Loius would like Boo as well. The dvds that have most helped with L's english have been Teletubbies, Maisy and the Brainy Baby dvds though they are US english. Good dvds for dancing and jumping around are Tweenies Songtime, Jojo's Circus, Teletubbies of course and Wheels on the Bus with Beep and the Band has helped her learn nursery rhymes. A good dvd we got bought recently is Meg and Mog about the witch and her cat, also only about 5 mins long each and it has her laughing hysterically . Can you do me a favour if you see Dora being sold in swedish and see if it has danish on too as I can't find it here but I know a lot of the scandanavian versions of dvds have all the languages on.
