I agree - never too late. Plus, I think some moms do a combo - I sometimes "help" her use her spoon since she's not very coordinated yet.  ;) But there's plenty of ideas for finger foods - lots already discussed on this thread. You might also find this web site interesting:

Thank you Goblin and Inoella. Today we started and our three meals were much more enjoyable for both of us.  I am a bit stuck on the breakfast ideas, I will check the websites. Thanks again.

Aslet we didn't give 'breakfast' for ages! It is the hardest meal as everything is so sloppy!

How about the following for breakfast ideas?
Pancakes (you can mix in fruit or veg purees to add nutrients and flavour) dry fried
Toast soldiers and boiled or dry fried egg (remove the yolk for allergies if you like)
Rice cakes
Steamed fruit slices (apple or pear are good but any that hold their shape and can just be cooked enough to make soft) And DS loves prunes. And raw banana.
Baked beans (Low sugar/salt and/or remove the sauce)
Cereals that can be held dry/with v. little milk like cheerios or special K (again check the salt)

I'll post again if I think of any more but I'm sure DD won't know what is appropriate breakfast food really so you can give her any thing I reckon.

DD LOVES raisins! I give her small handfuls some mornings while I'm making our breakfasts! But then I clean her teeth after her breakfast!

I haven't braved raisins yet. Omlette with cheese is another option for finger food breakfast.

DS loves fried egg yolks and toast with thick plain yogurt spread on it.  We also do a variety of fruits and cereals.

I can't get DD to eat egg yolks - really wish she would. I've tried hard boiled, fried, scrambled with cheese even... Not sure if it's the taste or texture.

She tried cherries yesterday - loved them! we split it in half so she took one half in each hand and was trying to stuff both hands in her mouth at once. lol! ;D

Anyone tried smoothies yet? I've heard about blending yogurt, fruit, and milk and putting it in a sippy cup. I'm thinking she's not going to like it but may try it anyway...

Thank you all ladies. We have been doing BLW a couple of days now, so far so good. I am helping her sometimes though,  a zucchini meal she likes but can not eat by hand too sloppy to hold, I give her with fork. Tried to give her a few things with my hand she refuses, and when I eat sth she wants a piece. I think she will be a good BLW baby.
For breakfasts I have tried pancake, crepes, omelette, scrambled egg, boiled egg, porridge, cheese, olives, tomatoes, sweet red pepper no chance yet. Tomorrow I will try Special K cereals. Today morning she ate Kiwi and white bread, a few bites of cucumber. Hope she will start eating eggs soon:) Fruits and yoghurt are her favorites. She can not hold spoon properly but today evening for the first time she accpted to hold her spoon to eat her yoghurt, it was great to see:)

Great job on holding the spoon! My DD can hold it and get it to her mouth (sometimes upside down lol!) but can't dip it yet. So I use two spoons - one I dip in the applesauce or whateever to give to her when she's down sucking on the other one and so we trade back and forth. makes for a long lunch session but it's fun.  ;D

breakfast isnt necessary enough to give a smoothie IMO no breakfast would be better, breast milk out-ways smoothies especially at this age

however a super healthy smoothie i make is:

1cup ice
1 cup so delicious vanilla coconut milk (doesnt taste like coconut best milk alt ive had)
1 avacado (makes it smooth plus super healthy)
1 banana
1/2 cup bluberries

just blend it up well and you've got a super healthy smoothie full of antioxidants, omega 3s, MDFCs and a bunch more

Just a quick question, which one causes allergies: egg yolks or whites? I thought my doctor said whites but the thread seems to point to yolks. I have given her both already (because I didn't know until my doctor told me not to give eggs), so does that mean I can continue giving him some or should I stop?

Also the LO really loves to handle cuttlery (he just learned to dip his spoon), but after a while he starts throwing it onto the floor and I am not sure if I should continue picking it up (and making it a game) or stop the eating since it is a sign of being done? If I do pick up the spoon he would eat more but throws it onto the floor after every feed.
