Late waker
« on: November 04, 2008, 17:31:06 pm »
Just a quickie... my dd has started sleeping quite late in the morning. Last night she went to bed at 7am, woke at 5.30, but went back to sleep, then slept until 8.15 am. I know some would be overjoyed at this, but just wondering if it will cause any problems - should I be waking her at 7ish to start the day? Thanks
Louise

Is she still having her 2 naps and for how long?  If they are ok, you are great! If she seems happy relatively speaking during her A times, fab too.  What time is her wake up from last nap, you may be able to go to bed a bit later like 7:30.  When she woke at 5:30 how long did she stay awake, did you have to intervene? Lucky you, you may have a LO who has higher sleep needs than average.  Super!

Hi there

How old is your LO?

Mine never used to wake til 8 when she was being fed during the night. Suited me at the time!
As soon as she stopped the night feed she started waking at 7am and wanting her feed straight away.

I think I used to work on an 8-7 schedule with a feed at 8, 11.30, 2.30, 5 and then 6.30 before bed. Naps wise, she was always very sleepy in the morning and was fine going back to bed at 9ish-10am and then from 12-2 and a catnap at 4.30pm. This was the schedule we did from about 3 months through to 6months or so.

Thanks for your replies - my lo is nearly 8 months old and we are currently deciding whether to drop the dream feed, but that's a whole other post! She woke at 5.30 as I am in the process of getting rid of that feed - it was a habitual feed and I realised she wasn't really hungry, so using pu/pd. Last night was the first night and it only took 15 minutes (she knows I mean business when I do pu/pd!) so hoping in a couple of days she won't be waking at 5.30. Before that she was going through the night. She still has 2 naps - morning usually about an hour, afternoon hour and a half. If for some reason her afternoon nap is short, she sometimes still has a catnap at 5pm too. In fact, she has the catnap quite often. Maybe we could make bedtime a little later. Tonight we put her down at 7.15pm - she went straight off, but she maybe could have lasted a little longer. I guess the only problem is if she isn't awake enough to get enough calories in her, but she is loving her solids, so maybe I'm just worrying for no reason!

Sounds like you have good game plans and know your DD well.  Well done.
