Totally agree with Yaya. You could also try a teething gel (such as Bonjela) while you wait for the Ibuprofen to kick in. It numbs the gums, work pretty much immediately and usually the LOs like the taste and 'forgets' to be upset for a while ;)

Thank you both for your help and support!!  We had a much better night last night...we gave our DS some Ibuprofen about a half an hour before bed time which seems to have helped.  Thanks again, and I'll keep you posted on our progress!   :)
