wind down samples for naps??
« on: November 10, 2008, 13:54:03 pm »
Hello,

I'm trying to get my 7 month old on a good routine - so far I've figured out that if she has a good nap during the day she is much happier during the day and goes to bed and night much easier.  I'm wondering if folks could share their nap wind downs? What do you do?

thanks!!

For Joey it was: light off, door closed, fan on, sing his favorite song, place in cribby, give pacifier, say "Good night, Mommy loves you, sleep tight."

For Noah it is (on a good day when Joey isn't in my hair constantly ;) ) : In my bedroom I have an I-Pod player and we listen to "Hey there Delilah" by the Plain White T's :) about 5 times just for soothing (he's very touchy).  Then we go upstairs to his room, and do not turn lights on at all.  I turn on his fan, change his diaper, pick him up and sing his favorite song, place in cribby, give bink, say "Good night, Mommy loves you, sleep tight."

We zip him into his sleep sack, sit in the rocker and read one story.  Then we stand up, give him a hug and say "Time for sleeping.  I'll see you in a little bit."  Lay him down and flick out the lights on our way out the door.  (He's mostly textbook with some old soul grumpy down the middle.)

Just have to add that we were in the airport a couple weeks ago, and our flight was delayed over nap time.  E was getting really grizzly, so I looked at him and said "naptime?"  I sat him in my lap, we read one story, then I hugged him and said "Time for sleeping.  I'll see you in a little bit." put him in his stroller, covered him with his blanket and turned away.  Within moments, he was asleep.  My husband just sat there with his mouth open:  "I can't believe that worked."  I told him "of course it worked, E is a student of the Baby Whisperer!"  (although secretly, I'm amazed it worked too...LOL!)

He's 8 months yesterday.  (My avatar is old, but I love that photo and can't bear to update it.)

Oh please don't change it, it's one of my fave's on here!  I just asked because I was wondering why on earth MY little guy can't do that....but the 5 month age difference probably explains it!!!!  ;D

Hi - for my DD I take her down to her bedroom, draw the curtains, sit on the rocker and hum until she rubs her eyes. I then say 'are you tired' and rub my eyes, then say "time for bed?" and make the babysign for that (open hand to your cheek) and then put in cot with dummy and say 'sleep tight'.
Generally takes about ten minutes and it's been several months now (she's now 12mths) and she seems to understand that the walk down the corridor means bedtime is coming.
Hope this helps. :D

EZ-EMom - I LOVE the airport story!  I'll need to try that in 4 months when I fly down to visit my parents. :-)

Thanks everyone! I can only get my 8mnth old to have a nap if I take her for a drive or take her to her room and give her a bottle.  I can't get her to nap otherwise - I tried the PUPD for over a week but it just made her angry and she skipped the nap all together - making for a very cranky and OT baby :(  I dont know what else to do that is why I asked what wind down routine you have... I'll keep trying...
