Umm, on days that she's home with me, none.  when she's at MILs, three days a week, it's on most of the day :(  Enfys is 18 months old.

I would say 1 to 1.5 hours a day at most.  Some days it is only 10-15 minutes first thing in the morning.

At most 40 minutes in the AM (that's if they are up and dressed at the crack of dawn) while we comb hair and I make breakfast.  - my girls are 6.5 and 3 years

Nick is 15 mos old. Only 15-30 mins per day, tops. Incidental news/sports. We will watch a kid's video (construction, airplanes, farming, music) on yucky weather/sick days, but under an hour's worth.
When DH is home with him, Nick often goes into the TV and says, "yeah, yeah, yeah," and "momo" (remote). He loves DH's Beatles videos ( we play guitar, piano, drums). LOL

I'd say it adds up to a few hours but Leorah doesn't sit and watch she is jumping, dancing and singing and copying everything that's happening like falling over etc! She also has mummy's knack of doing at least 2 things at once and looks at books, plays or climbs the sofa while watching!! If she was the type to sit and get sucked into the TV like my friend's dd I think I would let her watch less though I am ashamed to admit I am sometimes jealous of not having something that can get Leorah to sit and be calm while I do something important  :-[

mine are 3 1/2 and 5yo  and are at peak amount of watching time since stopping napping but not yet at school full time (there is only so much we can do actively between 6:30/7am and 8pm).  they watch anywhere from 45min - 1hr or so in the morning between brekkie and going out to school or outing. then they watch in the evening the same after dinner.  on a day when we are at home a lot or too hot or wet to go outside they will now watch a 3rd slot where they used to nap and are getting on my nerves and i give in to get some time alone.  so total can be anywhere from 1hr 30 on a good day - 3hrs on a bad weather or sick day i guess

DS: I'd say about 30 min in the morning while getting ready for school and eating breakfast etc etc... and then about 1 and half hours in the evening.... If he could he would watch all day.... But it is specific programmes - just trying to make myself feel better....

DD - not interested if she watches 10/15 minutes that is a lot...

Lets hope I wont have 2 TV addicts...

funny enough today they ended up just watching their morning shows. we were busy in the afternoon and then this evening instead alex asked if i would read a huge pile of books (i started getting sleepy on book #10)

also my 2 tend to watch and play at the same times sometimes so they may have the TV on for kids shows and also be colouring or playing...

there is only so much we can do actively between 6:30/7am and 8pm

Totally agree!  It's a loooong day, DD doesn't always nap now and her watching a movie in rest time is the only way I can get some time to re-group or do some work.  DD is slowly getting better at entertaining herself and I'll help her set up a task of play dough etc. while I cook.

It's hard work not watching too much. Similar to Deb, on a good day half an hour or none, on a bad day 3 hours.  It all adds up so quickly... half an hour while I shower, a movie while I relax and calm, and also some while I tend to DS.

But it should be less soon, we are getting rid of cable tv!

To counteract all the tv, we have a tv free day on Wednesdays which is manageable as DD is at day care for a good portion of the day.  :P

When do they normally start watching TV?  DS will only watch if he tired, then only for about 15 min.  I know it sounds horrible, but at times it would be great if he would watch for 30 or 40 min.

It varies by child, ark.  My dd1 was interested at a much younger age (I could actually take a shower) but my dd2 was well over a year before I could take a quick shower... but forget a long one  :P

Dd got interested about 15 months, we do 30-45 mins about 3-4 days per week, but Daddy allows more when he is giving me some time away on the weekend.  Also on sick days, we may do a video, she's occasionally gotten a couple of hours when we're both poorly.

my girls are 4 and 2, the 4 year old watch far more than the 2 year old, we hardly ever watch any in the mornings, dd1 watch tv after her naps, she has two nap free days so on those day there is not telly, she has two playdates a week so on those day very little as if she is going to the playdate we leave not very long after she wakes and if she is not then the play date arrives not very long after she has gotten up, normally they watch 90 minutes more on a friday and a sunday as i have two things i need to do that i just need peace for, i feel awful that i regulate so much of they telly time, we have watched far more telly at different times, like when i was first pregnant with dd2 and then when dd2 was first born, i have found it is pretty easy to wean the telly as long as i have alternatives, dd2 naps longer than dd1 so she only watches when the telly is on for dd2, so i guess she watches about 3 times a week

None here yet - will probably start soon....  I suspect once we introduce K to TV it will be hard to drag her away so I am putting it off as long as I can... !
