Has anyone used lecithin for plugged milk ducts?
« on: November 20, 2008, 20:05:30 pm »
So was wondering if anyone on here has tried lecithin for plugged milk ducts, and if it helped? I read on kellymom that it helps with some moms so thought I might give it a shot. I know my main problem is that I produce to much milk, and she's not fully emptying me. My doc. suggested pumping once a day, but I don't want to produce more milk. I wanna start producing less milk. :P

Any tips from mom's who had problems with 2 much milk supply are welcome. Just trying to figure this out. Sick of getting mastitis.  Already this week I've gotten 2 hard lumps, and had to take hot showers and massage them out.

It's certainly worth a try - no personal experience though :-\y

Have you tried block nursing?  Where you feed from the same side for two consecutive feeds - with your history you'd have to keep a really good eye out on the side you're not feeding from but it's an established way at reducing over supply issues - which is the biggest problem in the long term and may effectively illiminate your blocked duct issues longterm although possibly not initially.  Certainly worth a try if you haven't already.

Hugs honey - you're doing so well.  You've had so many problems and you're working through them so well.  Keep at it because when you get past the hard times, it's so rewarding :-*

I think the Lecithin is helping. I forgot to take it yesterday, and woke up this morning with a hard lump in my left breast. I went and took 2 pills. I massaged the lump, and its soft now. Worth giving it a try if anyones having a problem with clogged ducts.

I haven't tried the block feeding. I might give it a go. Keeping my fingers crossed that the lecithin and checking for lumps will help.

I had mastitis twice - during the second time, I read about taking Lecithin, so I started right away, while taking antibiotics.  I took it up until I stopped bfing ds and didn't have it again.  I plan on starting again as soon as #2 is born ;D
