please please help me!!!!
« on: November 25, 2008, 10:56:50 am »
oh boy am so worn out, nap times seems to be running my life. I'm obsessed by routines and mostly how I'm failing with DDs. feel like I'm doing a really bad job.  :'( nap times r never long enough i no this cos DD is still tired &often grumpy wen she wakes.

OK DD is 13 almost 14 wks old. shes lovely :). this is her routine at moment. just put up the ES times.

7am feed
8.30 ish nap time goes down fine usually wakes up with wind bout 9.15-9.30. big farts sometimes goes back to sleep sometimes cries for the rest of nap time.
10.30 feed
12.00 ish nap time yesterday tried wake 2sleep worked well so she had full nap. sometimes wakes with wind.
13.45 feed
15.00 nap time usually wakes once sometimes can resettle. other times spends nap time crying.
16.30 feed
18.30 feed bath bed. Goes down like a star. no worries. no longer needs shhh pat just shh and resting hand on her
22.30 feed & bed no fuss

were feeding every 4 hours to help with bad wind on HV suggestion & also DD was happy with it. we did try 3hrs but she wasn't happy at all with it. hubby and i found this plan in Tracy's bk 2 help move fm 3 t 4 hours & has helped lots with wind problem but she still has it bad. I'm breast feeding.

I'm so confused ??? about it all. i put her down when she shows signs of being tired. i think I'm catching her at the right time. she goes off well. sometimes a little fussy during wind down but usually goes down OK.

i posted once b4 and someone suggested reflux but i dont think it is &neither does HV. DD often wakes with wind. sometimes i think its just habitual waking from wind.

things we do to help with wind are
give infacol before feed
give dentinox after feed
rub her back
baby massage
mattress has books under it in daytime
Dr has prescribed Lactulose to help DD poo as was sometimes going 10 days
cuddles
leg exercise - bike motion etc.

nap times r so hard DD spends long time crying &i almost feel like I'm doing a variation of CC. i hate her being distressed  :'(
please help I'm prob doing somet wrong thats obvious 2 most folk but i dont no wot it is. i feel so upset sometimes cos I'm so obsessed by naps & i shud b obsessed bout my DD!

please any suggestions
love Roberta

Have you ever tried cutting certain foods out of your diet? She may be sensitive to any dairy you eat for example. I don't think there's too much you can do about her napping until you've gotten the wind under control.

Roberta,

I'd go with pp and check your diet. My lo (actually both of my kids) gets bad gas when I eat any dairy. It's not an allergy or anything, just a little intolerant of it. I can eat tiny amounts of it now and again without affecting her, but if I go overboard I can tell.

I'm gonna go with growth spurt, myself, although I've been thru and read I don't know how many reports of doctors not "getting" reflux when it DOES happen. ::) I say this since I notice the wakings at around 45 minutes.

Check at the bottom of Naps FAQ for How Tracy Helped Josie Get Thru 45-Minute Naps - the woman saved our sanity!!!!

A couple of things - blood in her nappy can be problem with her food - milk intolerance for instance, or less likely lactose intolerance.   Secondly, lactulose can cause wind, tummy cramps, bowel spasms, etc. My DS has awful constipation and the lactulose softens his stool but he suffers horribly from it so we use it sparingly and only when the constipation is actually causing him discomfort.   Was your DD's stool actually firm, or just that she wasn't going often? Breastfed babies rarely ever get constipated and going only once every week or so is fine for them - I've read that some BF babies can go up to 14 days even!  It's only constipation when her stool is very firm.    And, if she is constipated then I would bet my money that it's a food intolerance of some sort - reacting to what you are eating.

Have you asked your doctor to refer you to a paed?
