Biting!!!!
« on: November 25, 2008, 16:40:44 pm »
Amos has 5 teeth at the moment and is cutting another and he is biting when feeding!! Owww.

Wilf went through the same thing when he cut teeth and it really didn't last long so I know that we'll get through it but right now it feels like a big deal.

Sorry to just post to moan :-[

If you react quickly and say a loud enough OW!!! And take Amos off the breast he may be startled a little and that could be enough to make him stop bitting you. I got that trick when Antoine was BFing and it worked for us, no more bitting and back to enjoying BF sessions.

Good luck and hugs to you.

more {{{{{{{{{{{hugs}}}}}}}}}}}}}}} I'm on a biting respite, but with each new tooth Norah feels the need to try it out by nibbling on me for a few days. Hope it passes soon.

No teeth here yet but Mae has recently taken to chomping on my nipple - that hurts enough - I dread to think what it's gonna feel like when the teeth come through - eek!

Ah yes, the "gumming" can be just as painful as the biting..... :-X

Thanks ladies, I needed the reassurance that it wont last forever! I just have to remind myself that Wilf fed until he had a whole mouth full of teeth and my nipples are both still intact so I dare say they will survive once again!!

I don't know about 'just as painful', the teeth add a new and unwelcome dimension imo! You never know Jo maybe Mae is getting all her biting out of the way before her teeth come through - fingers crossed!!

Hmmm ok you're probably right there....but gumming isn't exactly a cup of tea and a chocolate biscuit now is it?!  :P

I still keep half expecting J to bite me with his mouthful of teeth  :-X

oh hugs i remember how that felt.  I found that when L got more teeth, that i needed to adjust the way i held her to feed, so it kind of altered the way she latched.  worked a treat ;)

God Leobin did that when he was sick with an ear infection AND teething at 5 months! He bit so bad he drew blood which poured out. blurgh

It was so stressful for me, have to say, like putting your nipple into a vice and hoping for a good ending! But it definitely did pass! Now he seems really gentle.

'yelping' when he bit didn't work for him (which I did out of sheer shock!), he was so upset and cried and refused to feed. Took a good few days to get him back to eating.

Now I want a chocolate biscuit.

What's a Whispa?

What worked for me was having a finger right by his mouth and watching him like a hawk. The second he would start to bit down, I'd put my finger to release his suction and pull him off. Now I can't remember if I let him nurse more, of if I stopped (amazing I can't remember). I found he didn't really care if I gasped loudly - I think he liked that sound. After awhile he stopped. The fact that I'm still nursing at 15 months is shocking to me and how we're going to stop is a whole different issue :)
