New to EASY, help me figure out night wakings!
« on: November 26, 2008, 04:50:53 am »
Okay, so I've just started EASY, and I'm trying to figure out our nights.

My baby is 5 weeks old.  She has always awakened at exactly the same times every night:  She'll feed at 11, wake up at 2 and feed, then wake up again at 4 and feed again, then sleep till 7.

After thinking things through as I've been working out our EASY, I'm starting to wonder if the 4 AM feeding is really necessary, or if she's just waking up for the sake of waking up.  I've noticed that most of the time during this 4 am feeding, she'll only take an ounce or so, whereas our other feedings she'll take 3, sometimes 4 oz.   My thinking is that if she can sleep from 11-2am and then from 4am - 7am, why is she waking at 4 am after she's just had a bottle at 2 am?  Does she really need to eat again?

So my question is, should I try to get her back to sleep without feeding her at 4 am?  Is she too young to do this?  Should I continue to feed her at 4, or should I just pat/shush and see if she'll go back to sleep?

What do you guys think?

Hi welcome to the BW website.

Can you post what your routine looks like through the day i.e.
E - how much
A - how long
S - including windown routine.

Is your lo bottle fed (formula) or breastfed?

It is not uncommon for lo's of such a young age to wake in the night for feedings.  Have you tried doing cluster feeds in the later afternoon and introducing a DF at about 10:00pm?

At 5 weeks old I think  night feeds at 11,2 and 4 then waking at sound pretty reasonable.

Feeding times are probably somewhere between 2-3 hours apart anyway.  What's it like during the day?
