YAY!  I noticed a big improvement in Mae from her first dose of Gaviscon but it took two weeks before she was really transformed.  Hugs!

Lets hope this you've just turned the corner :-*

That's great news.

Jo has given you great links and advice and i'm so pleased that your GP has given you something to see if it helps.  Many UK mums really have to battle with their GP to get it recognised.

It may still be an idea to get in touch with a breasfeeding councillor.  Do you know if the breastfeeing midwife is actually trained in breastfeeding with further breastfeeding qualifications?  My understanding of midwife training is that despite how important breastfeeding is, they actually receive relatively little training on it.  Hence suggesting see a properly qualified councillor.

Yes Jo has given me some great advice and links, many thanks.

I went to the GP fully prepared for battle and expecting to be palmed off with gripe water, so I thought about what I was going to say and rehearsed it before I set off, hahaha. I wasn't even half way through my "speech" when she started writing a prescription for the gaviscon. I did start off by telling a little white lie, I said I had spoken to a breastfeeding councilor and a support group and it was their opinion that Kurt may have reflux, and advised me to see my GP.

As for the breastfeeding midwife, as far as I know she works on a Tuesday and deals only with breastfeeding mothers. I do have a number for her I could try ringing tomorrow. Not sure if she will be able to help me now that I have been discharged from midwife services. I see I have been provided with some links for different support, it's a case of where do I start? I have heard of la leeche so that could be a good starting point.

It wasn't a white lie...

This is a support group, and the information that you have been given has been aquired over the year from a variety of sources - internet, breastfeeding councillors and people who have 'been there, done that'.  A lot of my knowledge base has come from my LC, Emma on this site who is a UK LC and having bf 2 children (and still am at 18mth with Andrew)

Well I did think this is a support group and just because I haven't physically been to a meeting or seen anyone doesn't make the advice from here any less reliable. I would say more reliable as there are so many people worldwide here. I just can't believe I have been battling on with this and I fond this place and in less than 24 hours I seem to know what the problem is and am well on the way to combating it. I would see that as I result. :)

{{hugs}} Gemma!  You sound so much better already!  :)  Glad to hear your GP was receptive to your concerns.

You asked about where to start calling.  I'm US, so have limited info for you, but as for UK helplines, Emma (was a bf mod here for years, trained bf councilor, etc) usually recommended one of the first 2 to start, but I can't remember which.  :-[  It would be one of these:
1. The NCT (National Childbirth Trust) Breastfeeding Line: 0870 444 8708 - 8am-10pm everyday.
2. The ABM (Association of Breastfeeding Mothers): 08444 122 949 - open from 9.30am to 10.30pm every day.

{{hugs}} again.  So glad Kurt is eating for you again.  :)

That's great news.  We use omeprazole and it took about 2 weeks for the full effects but was great.  I hope it all works out for you and i'm pleased you got the great support from all the girls here.

hiya, well things are going ok, some feeds are better than others. I did speak to a breast feeding counsiler and her opinion was that it's nipple confusion and she sent me some information in the post. To be honest I don't think she really listened and sounded in a rush, maybe I called at a bad time. I don't think it is nipple confusion as he latches on great and sucks well. I have noticed my breasts feel very empty within minutes of him starting to feed and don't feel full again for hours even though when I hand express some it does come out. I am following all of Jo's advice regarding improving milk supply and I do think the gaviscon has made a difference as he is a lot more settled at the breast than before. So all in all I am continuing to breast feed but still having to give some top ups or all hell seems to break loose. Who said breast feeding was easy haha x

That's a shame your counselor wasn't listening. It's their 'job'!
