That stinks that she is doing such short nights with only an hour nap. When she does take the hour.

Another short night here and he's been yawning all morning. So not exactly sure when to try the nap :(

Really feel for you on the short nights - its a killer.

Lily wakes at about 7 and I've been putting down at 1:30 so can play 30 mins or so then go to sleep till 4. BUT it means bedtime of 8 - 8:30 which my DH is not happy about at all. So felt like I had it figured for a few days and was happy but having to deal with grumpy DH every night not good so having to rethink. She has been waking (goes back down easily enough though) also so who knows.... if they don't nap what time do you put them down for bed?

Our bedtime is already 8.

I let Lyle sleep too long yesterday and he was up at 4:55 am :(

When Lyle doesn't nap I've been following a 12 hour rule, and that has worked pretty well for us. Then that night he's been doing 11-12 hours.

We usually have 13-14 hour days so that subtracts and hour or so from the day for the nap.

sorry to hear about the short nights guys.  We are getting short nights too about 9-9.5 hours  on the nap day.  It really stinks, he can't cope with those very well, but he can cope with no nap much better!

We have had a rough couple of days too, lots of tanturms, whinging and crying.  I have been putting him to bed at 7:15 on no nap days, we wakes at 6am, and on nap days, (1.5 hour nap) he's falling asleep by by about 8:30 - 9pm and waking at 6am.  The only good thing at the moment is the long night on the no nap day.

He did about 5 out of 7 days no naps again.

BTW he's turns 2 today!!!   ;D ;D

It's not technically Jarrah's birthday here yet :)  but Happy Birthday Jarrah!!!!

Last night was 8.5 :( hours. But, it's my own fault for letting him sleep too much yesterday. So I woke him today.

At least you know why you had the short night, Sherry!  I am still not game enough to cut the nap shorter than 1.5 hours.  It's hard enough waking him at that point.

thanks for the b'day wishes!  Unfort I'm at work today and J is with Mum very grouchy and teething!

I don't know how to cut the nap more than 2 hours either because he insists on going down at around 11:45. Every time I try to push it he either rejects the nap, or wakes up screaming at 1h40m into the nap. And that's why I ended up letting him sleep more the day before yesterday, because I couldn't bring myself to wake him 20 min after he had gone back to sleep :(

Poor Jarrah. I hope he feels better soon. I had to give meds in the middle of the night last night too. I think they are finally really making their way in. I hope!

Hi all, a quick question here.  Ds is 3.5yrs and we are down to a 30-45 min nap with me waking him and takes a super long time to wake up (i must be practicing for the teen yrs!).  but lately he has been waking early!  ie before 6am!  My cue for shortening his nap in te past was his increased length of time to fall asleep at night.  Is this another sign that it is time to drop the nap?  And if so how?  with early wake ups he just doesn't last the day!

oliver, my ds1 just dropped his last nap about a month ago and the same thing happened with us....super early mornings (as early as 3:30!!!) until we quit fighting with him to nap and rather put him to bed earlier. it took awhile to sort itself out completely, but he is now sleeping about 11 hours at night (7-6) with a random nap in the car or couch every 3 days or so. he was TERRIBLY grumpy for about a week or so after we gave up on the nap, but once his body got used to it, his grumpiness subsided and we found that we could even put him to bed as early as 5:30 or 6 if he was exhausted, and he'd sleep the whole night through. i know every lo is different, but that's how it worked out for us. hth! :)

good luck Oliver, I guess you could drop the nap for a few days to see if it helps with the EW's?

J has napped the past 3 days for 2 hours and done 9 hour nights 9pm to 6am  (even though he is in bed before 8pm)  but I am just grateful that he is napping.   ONe of the days he fell asleep after one hour of playing in his cot, so the nap was 2:30 - 4:30pm!!   He is sick iwth a cold though.  so this run prob won't last.

we have done 4 days without nap and only one of them did he wake later than 6am (6:30!!!!).  the week was interrupted with a 45 min nap on sat  so we could keep ds awake an hour later to deal with daylight savings....boy did that backfire!  He woke at 4:30am!  I was able to snuggle with him and have an extra 45 min sleep.  That day he was super tired and cranky, so let him take a 30min power nap.  The next am was 5:30am wake up.  We are now day 2 of no naps and continued EW.  Will try for earlier bedtime tonight : 7:00ish?!

Once ds hopefully settles down and handles no nap, how do I push bedtime and get a later wake?????

Eloise, was ds dropping his nap?  wow 2hr naps!

We have been absent for a little while just recovering from a terrible virus, maya has been so poorly.  Anyway think we are over the worse ,problem is she has been in my bed while she has been ill so we now have another hurdle to climb, however on the plus side she is sleeping 12+ hrs in my bed so at least we are catching up.  We are going to bite the bullet and put her back next wk when i know she is fully recovered and caught up fully on sleep as she was hardly sleeping while ill so could be a fluke so only time will tell.  Another positive is as she is sleeping so long at night she is not wanting a nap in the day and is managing pretty well so i am hoping this may be a smooth transition to the no nap so fingers crossed xx

Oliver, yes, DS has been dropping his nap for a few months now (ab out 3 months)  he has had runs of 3-4 days with out a nap.  I would say he started not napping about once a week at 19 months, now he is not napping 3-4 days of the week, usually on alternate days.     He's sick at the moment woth a cold, so I guess that's why he's napping.

I haven't been sure how to drop ds' nap....cold turkey or here and there.  I know he will always take the nap especially now with EW, it's just if I let him.  We have had 3 days in a row of no nap but still 5:30am w/u (like he has an alarm set for 5:30 on the dot!).  I am thinking maybe a 45 min nap today just to recover a bit as he is sooooooo tired come supper time.  Or should I let him nap as long as he wants (haven't done that in a very long time)?
And hey, he's still wakes up early despite nap/ no nap!!!!!!! Argh!!!!!!
