playing in room at nap time?
« on: December 10, 2008, 21:26:58 pm »
i have a new struggle, my ds is 25 1/2 months now, he got his new big boy bed for his birthday adn has done great in it.  Nap times at home are becoming more difficult, if i rub his forehead like they do at daycare then he goes to sleep on time and within a few min's, but if i leave him like i used to, to fall asleep on his own he keeps getting out of bed and playing in his room.  He has NO toys in his room, instead he is pulling his clothers out of his drawers, etc.....  it took him over 1 hr, close to 1.5 hrs till he finally did go to sleep and that was b/c i had it and yelled at him.  He is no where ready or trying to give up his nap yet, but it's becoming challenging for me but i guess fun for him as he has discovered that  he has FREEDOM in his room now!!!!  how can i get him to know his room is for sleeping, no play time, etc and get him napping again on time!!!!

When he's at his grand parents he does the same there and after 1 hr they just take him out of his room and then he gets NO nap and then i pay for it for 3 days after!!!!  HELP.....

{{hugs}}  We had somehting similar when J moved to the BBB (or at least the mattress on the floor ;)).  In our case, it was completely the novelty.  On weekends or other days off I just left him in there.  He was content & not calling for me.  Eventually (most days) he'd sleep.  It took a little while for him to go *straight* to sleep, but once the novelty wore off, it got better quickly.

HTH.

thanks.....  it's been so good for the month and a half that he has been it, i thought " maybe he won't do what i hear others have experienced"!!!!!  NOPE, i was wrong!  I hope it does wear off soon, as today when he finally slept it was 1:45 and then he slept 2hrs!  I was going to wake him at 3 so he would go to bed ontime but he currently is sick with a cold/cough so i thought it's best to let him sleep!  thanks once again

He might be getting ready, Ryan was about 2.5 when he dropped his, he started playing in his room (and he was still in his cot at this stage).

I was worried he wasn't ready to drop the naps so I did try for a long while with some success until it came to a point that it was s fruitless exercise. I switched to letting him lay on the couch with a blanket watching a bit of a film and for a while he would go off to sleep that way. Once he was ready to completely drop naps he stopped napping on the couch.

After 3 los of napping fine in bbb my ds has taken to emptying all drawers and rarely sleeping at all. I'm afraid he is dropping the nap and I'm upset about it since I have a new baby and desparately need that time; but I'm sick of cleaning up the mess each day...and he's a crab. Ok, just venting

yes he so needs his naps still too. he can't function without it, he will just fall asleep in the car or what ever and got so HYPER!!!!! not listen, etc...  it's just at daycare he will go to sleep reall well for 1hr to 2-hrs... but there is someone there beside him or near him, if i am in his room and rub his head he will go to sleep real quick, i was just hoping that maybe he is getting used to being ribbed for a nap instead of dropping the nap, so i guess if i need to rub him then so be it, anything as long as he still naps!!!!   I just never wanted to start a bad habit at home....

i wish mine would lay on the couch and rest but he's got way too much energy even when he's super tired!
