Eat less at 1 year old?
« on: December 14, 2008, 07:41:41 am »
Hello~

I heard people said babies eat less when they reach 1 year old.
Is that true to all babies?

My DS is almost 1 year old.
This week, he eats only 2/3 of what he ate in 9-11 months, or even less.
Do you think it's ok?

Thank you~

Yes my understanding was that most parents see a drop in what their LO eats at around 1 year - their rate of growth slows down a lot after this time, compared with how fast they grow in the first year

{{hugs}} we are going through just the same thing. Ellie was eating soooo much I didn't know how she actually got it in her! But now since she turned 1 she has eaten a lot less. It has been partly being ill that didn't help but even now she is better she still isn't eating that much.

TBH, babies will not starve themselves. They will eat if they are hungry. Is your DS having three meals a day? You might find that he would benefit from small meals and good snacks. I find Ellie will not eat masses at meal times cos really she just wants to get down and play, so instead she plays with her food. But if I give her snacks through the day she does seem to eat more at meal times.

Thank you all of you!

My DS used to eat his meals well. Eat eat eat until finish.
Now he begins to play and may be distracted in the middle of meals,
but if I encourage him a little bit, he may eat a bit more.
I'm not sure if he's really full or just being distracted.
I now trying to learn his I-am-full signals.

If he's anything like my LO - he will have phases of eating and not eating - as Faye says, he won't starve!
