Routine for 9 month old please :)
« on: December 14, 2008, 20:30:04 pm »
Hi - I haven't posted for a while and wondered if someone could point me in the right direction...

I'm looking for example routines for 9 months old, just to check that we are doing at least vaguely the right thing!

This is where we are at at the moment and thinking of dropping the 10.30 as we have missed it on a few occassions and she doesn't seem to notice / mind...

7am E - Bottle (7oz)
9am E - Breakfast Cereal
10am S - 30 - 60 mins
12noon E - Dinner and Fruit
1.30am S - 30 - 60 mins
3.00pm E - Bottle (7oz)
4.00pm S - 30 mins
5.45pm E - Dinner and Yoghurt
7.00pm S - Bottle (7oz)

Elisha is 9 months old and normally sleeps through from 7pm - 7am

Thanks xx

most of your routine looks fine, however the short naps jump out at me. 30/35min naps usually mean OT, 45/50min naps UT.

hunter's day at 9mths looked similar regarding bottle/eat times, however he was taking 2 naps about 1hr15 to 1hr30min.

regarding the 10.30 bottle, signs that they are ready to drop it can be taking less milk at this feed and/or the early arvo feed.

Great, thanks

We dropped the 10.30 yesterday and over the weekend and she didn't seem to notice so that's ok. She's still having the recommended 600ml a day of milk.

Would you be able to point me in the direction of the pages for meal ideas?

Thanks :)

click on 'Baby Led Weaning' or 'Baby Food Recipes' (in blue at the top of the page)

that should give you some good food ideas. you could add a yoghurt or cheese snack to replace the 10.30 bottle too.

are her naps usually closer to 30 mins or 60mins? and what is her usual Activity time?

so 3 bottles/ feedings seems to be the way at this age? that makes me feel better...we are at 9 mts and a week almost 9.5 mts...we are laying off cereals per doc due to some constipation and we make the rest of his food at home and are having a new phase with the last snack/ feed before dinner here is where we are at

wake between 615-645
eat 7 bf
eat 845/9 solids avocado chuncks dusted w grd flax seeds as finger food then fruit 3 food cubes
sleep 945/ 10 usually 1.5hr
awake 1130ish
eat 12ish bottle expressed breastmilk (6 oz)or bf if i am home on weekends
eat 145ish solids oatios finger food then 3 food cubes veggies, 2 oz prune juice
sleep 3ish about 1.5 hr (if not awake by 4:45 i usually urge him to wake crack some light make a little noise)
eat 515ish (used to breastfeed here but doesnt seem hungry since he started biting me at this time will either give him snack of cheese or small 4 oz bottle of expressed breastmilk if i have time to pump it out before leaving work)
eat 6ish (this is hit or miss he doesnt seem hungry enough doesnt usually finish as little as 2 food cubes might meld together the 5 and 6 feed into either a 4 oz bm snack bottle or finger food)
eat 730 bottle expressed breastmilk 6 oz

we have recently transitioned to all bottles as a sippy cup - born free brand. hope that helps

one more thing i notice is that you have a 12 hour night maybe you can extend the a times and then get 2 long naps in instead of 3? when we get a 12 hour night in (we usually get 10.5-11) our LO is very rested and can almost stay awake 4 hours...

kaynay,
have you thought of turning the 5.15 snack and 6 dinner into just dinner at around 5.30/5.40?? that way he would be hungry enuf to eat more.

Thanks all, we have had a couple of days with just 2 naps recently, however she seems to only have 30 - 45 minute naps so 3 may be more likely... we'll try for 2 longer ones if possible.

Kaynay - you mentioned in your post about constipation and cereals. My LO seems to be suffering a bit with constipation and I'm wondering if it may be the cereals. Would you mind if I asked what the doctor advised? I'm thinking perhaps I need to alternate between cereal days and perhaps fruit instead?

Also, do you feed your LO or give them finger food? Some fruit seems too slippy for my LO

Thanks again

the constipation has relived itself I think our LO hit some major developmental milestones- crawling good, standing good, very very mobile and now he seems to have his movements better without as much a struggle but I DO alternate cereal days and I DO give him fruit everyday...some days I will do cereal with fruit for breakfast and on the days I dont do cereal I give him fruit with avocado...also I put ground flax seeds in his breakfast...also I have added about 2-3 oz of water in a sippy cup the doc noted that now that he is slowly weaning (loosing a feeding of which is not a 530 dinner not a 5 breastfeeding and 6 dinner) that fluids helps...I think physical movement/ development and fluids have helped we get a movement each day and without all the red faced grunting. We are now approaching 10 mts this week.
