He's Developing a Food Aversion
« on: December 19, 2008, 04:09:23 am »
UGH!  Please tell me it gets better?  He gags and vomits on texture, so I've slowly been adding real mushed textured food, sweet potato, to his purees.  Then he got sick with a cold last week, and he'd vomit with any food, even really pureed.  Now that he's better he starts to gag then vomit as soon as I put the spoon to his mouth and it touches his lips, doesn't even eat it.  Eventually he'll eat it, but will he get over this?  Is there something I can do?  It's only with the Sweet Potatoes that he does this, not with the textured carrots, his cereal, or his rice cake crackers.

Hi Melanie- I think as long as you follow his lead, he will get over this. Lay off any foods that make him gag badly at the moment and reintroduce them in a week or so. Let him eat the textures that he can take easily. Hope this changes soon for you!

Hi Melanie,
this is just a phase. Donīt force him to eat, it would only make it worse. As Cathie said, lay off the food that makes him gag for a while.
good luck
