have you tried to put her to bed a little later or earlier then if she is cutting her daytime naps down and see what happens.  I know when my ds sleeps less during the day i put him to bed earlier but lately i find that he just wakes even earlier , so maybe he's just regulating to having that less sleep and needs more A time... so i have been doing 8pm bedtimes and sleeping by 8:30 and it seems to be working, well the last few days anyway......  Today he threw me off as he slept 2.5 hrs this afternoon, so now i have no idea what time i should be putting him to bed... ahhhh... the guessing games never end!

sima, you kind of have to find the balance that is good for you lo. i also find that she goes in cycles. a few days of longer naps, then shorter naps......

Hi Lin and Aly:
Last night went to sleep at 6 because of no nap and woke at 5.30 today.  Since she takes 1 hour naps, I decided to have her asleep by 12 and she slept 1 hour and not tired.  Her sleep is changing all of sudden and it seems she needs more A time but not sure......I am going to try putting her down later for nap and see what happens.

Lin: What is your lo schedule like???  Wondering if my lo needs more A time-- More than 6---to be tired.  Thanks for posting!!

Aly, thanks, I see what you mean abuot balancing---when they sleep less during the day, put her early to bed.  Definitely when she takes 2 hour naps, she wakes up real early.  Many thanks!

my ds is 26 months and his schedule is like this.
wake 6-6:30
nap 12:30 ( normally 1hr 15 min -1.5hrs)
bed 8 sleeping for 8:30
It seems to be working..... for the most part, he was always one that needed less sleep then others but still needed a set schedule since born!
we have been to this 6-6.5 A time for about a month now as  before it was get ready to sleep at 5.5 and sleep by 6A time for sure but then he was waking earlier and taking longer to go to sleep.  today he was up at 6:10 napped at 12:30 ( fell asleep about 12:45ish) slept for 2.5 hrs
( not himself today) and i had him in bed for 8:30 and he bounced around for 30 min till he fell asleep at 9pm. i guess not tired enough b/c of the nap but i still wanted a normal bedtime b/c he wasn't himself today so i figured that he just needed the extra sleep.  we will see what time he wakes up at but it's been 6:15 pretty much all week.....

just like you said before, the more they sleep the earlier they wake up :( that is what we had.... with his 2.5 hr nap and not falling asleep till 9pm he ended up waking up at 5:45am!  but when you think of it he had 11hr 15 min of sleep in 24 hrs which is very close to normal for him.  he will get anywhere from 11-12max. i think it's a losing battle b/c if he would of stayed uplater i think he would of just gotten OT then.... so a catch 22

Hi Lin!!! Thank you so much for your input...it has helped me greatly.  I was putting my lo down at 5.5-6. But recently not tired enough so wouldn't nap so I stretched to 6.5 and now she goes to sleep!!!  She woke up 5.30, put her down 12 and it is 1.30 and still sleeping.  Yes, those longer naps make them wake up early!!!! Can't win!!!  I am tempted to wake her up at times.  One time she slept over 2 hours and then she woke up at 5.20 the next day!!!

yikes, i hate when that happens!!!!  ya i have woke mine in the past but he is so crabby when i do so, i figure that he needs it that's why he's sleeping so i'll let him sleep.  He was up at 5:45 today and i put him for a nap at 12:20 and he was sleeping at 12:30 and slept 1hr 45 min, so more A time is needed i guess now on... hey if it works then great!!!! :)

Hi Lin,
Still confused...now I think she OT...I can't figure it out.  She woke up between 5-6?  She woke up bad mood and slept 12-1 for nap and bedtime 6.15.  It seems to me that she is OT but if nap too early, she still naps 1 hour.  I really would like to move her day forward---how did you do it?

it is hard and will take her a while to adjust!  With my son i moved up his nap and then bedtime about 15 min every few days, then after 1 week i got to my desired time slot and stuck with it permanetely.  SOme days he was grouchy too and was tired sooner but i stuck with those times and not going back and forth until he got used to it.  After about 1-2 weeks he was 100% fine with those times.  Still some days he can handle more awake time then others i find, like today, he woke at 6:30 napped by 1pm and slept 2hrs and still didn't want to get out of bed right away!!! i had him in bed just a tad bit after 8pm tonight.  He was quite grouchy all afternoon and had his purple bags under his eyes all afternoon till bedtime, so he must be needing more sleep..... hopefully he will have a good nights sleep tonight and sleep in a bit.
