EBM and feeding at night
« on: January 02, 2009, 14:07:49 pm »
My 6 week old seems to fall asleep at the boob at night :( It takes forever to feed at the 2 NW and I am thinking to pump and give her EBM at those feeds (although I do enjoy snuggling her, but it's taking away a total or 2-3 hours of sleep with the process). Anyone have any luck with this? Think it will help? I've tried compression and it only helps a little bit.

I wouldn't recommend it purely because prolactin levels are highest during the night feedings and this is natures way of ensuring a good long term supply.  I know that sleep deprivation is a complete killer (still struggling with that myself ::)), but it's for such a short amount of time relatively speaking (or it's supposed to be :P ;)).  She'll be super efficient before long and these lengthy night feeds will be a thing of the past and a distant memory.  Hugs honey :-*
