Just wanted to add that when we get 1hr 15min naps like yesterday actually it is due to teething. When she wakes do you try and leave her or give teething gel or pain relief?

Natasha, I do let her try to re-settle.  But never game pain meds so far, as I am quite sure she is not teething right now.  She would never let my finger in her mouth if she were.

Today she cried out at 7 but I'm sure she would have gone back to sleep if I had let her.  But I went to get her as 7am seems to be our magic wake up time right now.  I dimmed the lights and kept it really low key after 9am since yesterday she went to nap at that time.  No tired signs at all so at 10.50 I read 2 books, and popped her into bed.  She napped for 1hr40.  It's amazing how she caught up on her sleep in one day only  :o  Anyway this nap ended at 12.40, so we had lunch and went to baby group, and on the way back (15min walk) she was yawning and yawning.  We arrived home I kept the lights dim, and popped her in the crib.  It was 3.45, she moaned and moaned until 4.15 and I got her out.  Kept lights dim again, was watching a quiet cartoon, and she came to me and seemed really tired.  Blinking a lot etc. so tried again.  It was 4.45, moaned for another 30mins and no joy again.  In the end I git her out, quick dinner, skipped bath, change to pjs and straight to bed at 6.  Haven't heard from her since.

So my plan for tomorrow is to turn everything low key at around 10.30 and take it from there.  If she doesn't show me any sleepy cues I will stretch her another 15 mins and try 11.15.  I want to stretch her to the limit to find the a time that gives me the longest nap and then start doing 20min nap at that time, and long nap (hopefully) 2hrs later.

Thoughts?

Hi Charm,

Hugs, sorry about the naps today.

It is worth a try with extending A time and then a 20 minute nap, but just wanted to warn you that you may run the risk of the second nap being too late, and eating into her night time sleep  :-\ What do you think?

I was thinking something like this;

W 7
N#1 11.30-11.50
N#2 2.00-4.00

I am thinking about 11.30 next nap because today she napped for 1hr40 at  11, so can probably get to 11.30 for 1st nap, I don't think later.  And Stacy said that after a 20min nap you do 2hrs a time, while after a 30min nap, you do 3hrs a time.

What do you think?  Still too late?

Sorry I forgot about the 2 hour A time.

I think it could work, but you don't want her napping any later than 4:00pm.  I found I had to wake Abi up no later than 4:15, otherwise bedtime was a nightmare.

Are you planning on doing this tomorrow?

Good luck, let us know how you get on.

No I am going to find the magic a time first.  I think I can stretch her some more.

Charm - I just wanted to suggest maybe two things.
1. I don't think you want to stretch her to the limit and then do 20 mins. Stacy's suggestion was to put her down as soon as you think they will go down. I personally think that 11 would probably be a good time. Also because Lyle as done 2.5 hours more than once, and you know he doesn't do long naps that often, so I think you want to give her room to have that opportunity?  So maybe 1:30-4? Also.....
However, having said that I got a 1 hour PM nap today..... and my first instinct was that the first A time was not long enough? or that I'm going to have to go back to 2.5 hours of A time. That's actually what I had the most success on. I'm going to give the 2 hours another couple of days to see. Or at least one more day.
The other thought I had was that K has been doing long A times before bed, and still sleeping well at night..... so..... 4-7/7:30 might not be long enough after a really nice nap?
But.... I also know that K is a lot more adaptable than Lyle so I might be putting in too much thought for you :)

Oh... one more thought..... I think one of the reasons to have that nap earlier is that is eventually the time you want to have it.... so you just start shrinking the cat nap and keep the nap at the same time?

Sherry thanks for that input.  When I said I was going to stretch her, it's because she did not show any tired signs at 11.  So I thought maybe I'd try 11.15 today and see if I can get a longer nap than 1hr40.  She used to sleep 2-2.5hrs with her morning a time when I did not limit it to 45mins.  And it helps for when we want to go out to let her have that long nap in the am.  If she cannot do it anymore that's another story, but I need to find out...I think. As for the evening a time, it doesn't seem to affect her night sleep at all even if it's very short.  With K it's more about total hrs of naps per day rather than the last a time.  She went to bed easily even after 2hrs a time recently.

I see what you mean though about shrinking the catnap and keeping the 2nd nap at the same time.  I thought I would keep pushing the 1st nap backwards and eventually it would become the only nap.  Does that make no sense at all?  Maybe not huh?

Charm - that does make sense. I'm just worried that she will be too OT to take a good second nap for you. But it's def. worth a try. And it's a very good idea to find out what her current A time is to get a good nap.

Hello Brooke -waving-

Hey Sherry, yes she might get OT but I still think it's worth a try....BUT not today.  Yep, bunny  ;D  She slept well last night ( thanks God for the 6pm bedtime even though I hate it).  I had to wake her up this morning at 7.  But at 9.30 she was yawning and came to me on the glider and was acting very sleepy, so I gave in :-[  She napped for 1hr.  I think UT.  I put her down at 2pm for her 2nd nap.  I hope it was not too late.  Was aiming for an earlier nap but she just wouldn't stop being a monkey.  And that's with dim lights and no tv on.  I almost fell asleep my self...but not her.  Anyway she's been sleeping for 30 mins so far.  I'll come back with an update.

Natasha what a times were you doing before you got to the 1 nap stage?

Update;  She slept for 1.45hrs and I woke her up  ;D  She actually cried out after 1.5hrs and I thought she was awake, so was going to get her because my friend is into photography and she wanted to do a photo shoot with K.  But she went back to sleep, so I let her sleep some more until I got ready.

Hey Charm - that's a much better day! Yippee! Moo had a much better day too - he managed 1hr 50 this morning and 45 minute catnap this pm, and then went down for bed without standing up once at 7.30! I didn't ask Nat (the CM - decided she's such a part of our lives now I should call her by her proper name!) what time he went down for that morning nap, but he's been going at about 4 hours. I may try a stretch to 4.5 tomorrow - my feeling is he lasts longer at hom cos its so dull compared to having the other kids to play with.

Sherry - booo for the EW - I just HATE those sooo much - its sooooo dark and cold here now at that time of the morning. I guess it probably is with you too.

H

H, Glad moo had a good day too.  I think you are right in saying he might be able to handle longer a times at home because he is not so stimulated.

Thanks Natasha.  One more question  ;D  How did you decide to eliminate the catnap?  Were there any signs from Mirelle?
