Why does my porridge surprise me?
« on: January 05, 2009, 09:30:38 am »
By which I mean, why is my porridge for LO mixed to what seems like the right consistency in the kitchen, and then pretty much as soon as I've started feeding him, it's all runny and he's having to practically drink it off the spoon?

I guess the answer is just to put in less liquid than I think it needs so it'll be just right for him, but why?  ???

There will probably be a very simple answer to this and then I shall have to squirm in embarrassment at having had to ask.

Expressed breast milk and water, or just EBM... have tried it with rice cereal and now four-grain cereal and it seems to be doing the same thing with both...

Eureka!! Thanks Rachel! ;D

Is there anything that can be done about it, though? Should I add less EBM? Would it make any difference?

If I remember correctly, adding less EBM made it better.... or mix it at the table right before feeding.

Nothing fancy - it's just the boxed baby cereal.

Just a note of caution about porridge. It may not be the same with baby porridge, but DS (3) had 'real' porridge for a week (on his request!) and ended up being so severely backed up that the doctor had to give him an enema (on Christmas day :(). DS still enjoys a good porridge, but just once or twice a month.

Really shouldn't be a problem giving oats, but, like anything, it's best to change it up a bit and enjoy a variety.

I bet she loved it with banana or dates - yum :)
