Entertaining an active, touchy 8.5 month old....suggestions?

my son is very active and doesn't seem to like any of his toys.  He only wants to walk around holding your hands and getting into things he shouldn't be getting into.  I have tried reading, singing with him, and getting him to play with his toys. Any suggestions for a stay at home mom who is out of ideas?

it seems like I have tried it all.  once I put a pen into an empty water bottle and it entertained him for a while but now he won't go for it.  it is almost like he says "mum, I've played with that and figured it out, what's next!" anyway, I'm working on it and will post agin if I find something that works:)

I haven't read through the threads above, but one we're doing with our nearly 8-month old at the moment is letting him empty containers full of stuff. I've got some toys in there but also empty boxes from his nappy creams, a teething ring, tissue packets, a measuring tape and other random household items (suitably assessed as reasonably baby-safe). He takes everything out and examines them or chucks them away as necessary, and then I come along and see what he's done and put them all back and he looks at me as if to say "oi!" and takes it all out again

Any good?

I will give it a shot
