fighting sleep
« on: January 18, 2009, 06:21:32 am »
hi. my DD has started to fight her sleep. She has a cow when we enter the dark room and she hears the white noise. I have tried to walk her around the house, but when I lay her in my arms she get ticked. I have tried to hold her up by my shoulder, but she doesn't get drowsy that way. Does anyone have any ideas or tricks? I am literally holding her in my arms as she cries and tries to wiggle away. She also get ticked when I lay her in her crib.

Hey Alice!!

It sounds like she might be undertired. What's your current routine? Are you on 4 hour EASY yet?

This is typically what happens to us when DS is ready for an increase in his A time.  BUT he still seems to give tired signs that make me think he needs his original A time, at least for a week or so - sort of like he's starting but not quite there yet.  (Does that make sense?)  I do a longer wind down or make his A time longer but VERY quiet - just sitting with him an extra 5 or 10 minutes so that he gets used to being awake that long, but not "playing."

What is your wind down? Is she still swaddled? Is it for naps or bedtime as well?

hi ladies. i have been trying to avoid this site as I became WAY obsessed when I had Gage, and it drove me crazy. I was hoping this round would be easier as I have traveled down this road before, but Sophie is different child. I am afraid I have turned my angel baby into a high maintenance child. She used to fall asleep so easy. All i would have to do is rock her standing up for about5 or so minutes and then lay her down. Now, she has to fall asleep in my arms and 99% of the time will only sleep a max of an hour. I have been trying to get her on a 4 hour EASY, but the naps are ruining it. She has also started waking in the night a few times for a feed (i think she needs more calories as she is 17lbs :o). At night, I just feed her and she falls to sleep by herself with no help. I will post today's routine later, so you can see where I am going wrong. Thanks a bunch.

PS she is not swaddled

Alice sounds like you need to work on getting Sophie to fall asleep independently and you will find a difference in her nap lengths and night wakings.

thanks natasha. your girls are getting so big and beautiful. boy time flies!

How do you think I should start to teach her as she used to know how to fall asleep on her own and does so at night? I did try shh and pat and she just kept smiling at me and eventually got ticked. I started walking her around because my back is hurt and i cant sit in the rocker. do you think i should do pu/pd? I am afraid os as Gage couldn't handle it.

Could you post your routine first incase it just may be that it needs tweaking?
What happens if you put her down for naps does she cry right away?

Alice, don't worry, you can get back to the angel-ness. :)
In addition to what Natasha posted, remember there's a HUGE growth spurt at 4 mo which is just where Sophia is at. That's probably why she's been waking for feeds too.
