Habitual waking?
« on: January 28, 2009, 07:34:35 am »
OK, kinda long but bear with me. Been doing EASY for 4 weeks now and going really well.Usual hiccups like short naps etc but generally ds is happy and contented.
Every so often he has a nightmare day (well, its happened twice) when I think overtiredness builds up and I have created a monster!! ;) On the days it has happened he has not slept at all during the day apart from a wee 20mins here and there. Bedtimes takes about 2 hours to get him to sleep but once he is asleep he sleeps right through the night from sheer exhaustion. Anyways I would much rather he napped well and went down well at bedtime than sttn through exhaustion as I can see a happier baby when he does a good EASY day.
My question is this, when we are on our routine he wakes once in the night at 4am, usually to the mark give or take 15mins. He always takes a good feed and goes right back down again. Now that I have seen that he can go the distance without the calories do you think he is waking up from habit even tho he takes a good feed? I don't mind getting up in the night but oviously if I think he could sttn I would love to encourage it. He is 7 weeeks old and I was prepared to wait another good wee while for an 11-7 and I feel lucky already getting that 11-4 stretch but looking back it has just made me wonder. Any input greatly appreciated.  :)

At 7 weeks it's totally AMAZING that he's gone all night ever!!! Really. I would have given my arm for that! Anyway, at his age it's definitely too soon to try and not feed at night at all, especially since he takes a full feed on those occasions. I would just feed him when he wakes and not when he doesn't. :)

LOL, yeah those early weeks can be so tough. But believe me before you know it he'll be a toddler and you'll have a new set of problems ;)

He sttn last night again. 11pm-6.30am. It's kinda starting to freak me out as he is so young, is it normal for a 7 week old to sttn already?

Oh believe me, that's AMAZING!!!! ;D

It's not real common that a 7 week old can STTN, so this means that you have a great sleeper on your hands!
