Am I feeding him the right amount?
« on: January 30, 2009, 14:43:09 pm »
Hi everyone, My DS is 5mo (and 20lbs so a big boy for his age!!) and on the advice of my HV, we started weaning at 4mo. This is his current routine, I need some advice on whether this is the right amount, too much/too little milk etc etc.

7.30am - wake up and 9oz milk.
8.30am - Cow and Gate baby porridge 6 level scoops with 6 scoops of water. (I am using the scoops you get in the cow and gate formula boxes to measure his porrdge.)
12noon - A jar of cow and gate stage 1 food (or the same amount of homemade pureed veg).
12.15pm - A cow and gate fruitapura. (pureed fruit) or the same amount of homemade fruit puree.
4pm - bottle 9oz and a fruitapura or the same amount of homemade fruit puree.
7pm - bottle 9oz.

The reason I am asking this is that we are batteling with mutiple NW's and I wonder whether re-introducing the DF would mean I was feeding him too much?? We cut the DF out when he started weaning and at that point (5weeks ago), he was still STTN.

Any info will help. Thanks so much.

Honestly, to me this seems like a lot of food for a LO who isn't 6 months old yet - in fact it's probably more than my LO was having at 7 months! Stan has always been on the 98th and even above it for weight, so also a big boy, but personally I would scale right back on the solids and offer more milk if he is hungry. Of course, this is just my opinion... Out of interest, why did your HV recommend early weaning?

I'd add in at least one bottle of milk per day - at that age ds still took 5 bottles per day (well one was in the night rather than the day!!). They should still be having the same amount of milk as before as first stage weaning is about new tastes and textures not to fill them up/replace milk feeds.
