Thanks; I am sending out the long nap vibes as we speak  :)

Emma - I also forgot to mention that decreasing the feeding time during the 5am feed [or sometimes 4am] helped start the day off properly and helped DD have a proper feed at wake time.

Thanks again  :-*

I am so pleased that things are going so well.

Hi again,

Thanks again for all the great advice.  I need a little more tweaking...

Although I have been trying to steadily decrease the amount of milk at the 5am feed, I am struggling and thought maybe you might have some suggestions.

DD used to nurse about 15 min when she'd wake.  Now, she's down to 10.  But I can't go any lower.  If I stop at 5min or even 8 min of breastfeeding and put her in her crib, she starts fussing, and it eventually turns into crying.   As a result, although wake time is 7am, she's not quite hungry so I actually end up waiting until 8 am or 8:30 am to feed her again.

Any ideas?  The problem with this method   is that by the time the 8:00am feed comes around, she's actually quite sleepy.  Also, it has a trickle affect on the other feeding times.

Thanks
Sherry

The only thing I can suggest is perhaps to try and do the feed a little earlier, to try and help combat the 5:00am wake time.  Perhaps get up at 4:00 to do it???

Hmmm... good idea.  I will give it a try tomorrow.  This morning, she actually stretched it out and made it until 5:50am... so I am hoping it'll naturally move towards 7, which is the target wake time.

Thanks Paula.

Great news on the almost 6am feed.  Sounds like she is naturally going longer.

Keep us posted on how you get on.

Hi there,

Thanks for the encouragement.  DD is really congested [she has a cold, she can’t feed as well, which has lead to my getting a mastitis… but that’s a whole other story :'(].  As a result, we’re a little off our regular schedule.  The Dr. suggested that I feed her as frequently as possible, even if it means shorter feeds, to ensure the breast stays ‘empty’.  So… we’re now on 2 ½ hour EASY again -> shorter naps -> crankier baby and mommy :(

Two questions…

1. Once the mastitis is OK, how do I get back on track?  Do I go with 15 min increments until we’re back to 3 ½ hr EASY?

2. Is it normal that her night feedings would be all over the place?  I’ve been trying to find a pattern; sometimes she’ll get up at 1am and then 5am, sometimes 3am and then 6am, sometimes it’ll be more like midnight and then 4am… It’s not a huge problem, although I would think it should be somewhat regular [like her daytime feeds].  No?

Thanks,
Sherry

Hi Sherry,

No real advice.  Haven't had the problem yet, but just wanted to send you hugs on the mastitis...   :-*
Hope you recover soon!  :-*

Huge hugs on the mastitis.  Hope it clears up soon.  Hope your lo is feeling better soon.  Congestion is so hard for they as they really don't understand  :-*

I am thinking that the night feeds are all over the place at the moment, due to the shorter feeds during the day.  Once you are back on track, I am sure that you will see an improvement in the night.

To get back onto a normal routine, yes, increasing the times by 15 mins or so should help get your lo back on routine.

Thanks Sandy and Paula.

The mastitis is better (due to antibiotics), and LO has been sleeping for 2 1/2 hours now  :)  I am not going to wake her yet, since she desperately needs the rest to get better.  If she goes over the 4 hour between feeds, then I'll wake her.
