Having NW and EW again!!
« on: February 19, 2009, 15:10:16 pm »
Hi ladies!! My lo is 5 months 1 week old.  We had EW about 1 month ago, but it lasted a couple of weeks and then we went back to normal.  But now, we have been getting EW again.  Plus, he has been waking up during the night.  He fusses for about 15 min and then goes back to sleep.  He seems restless.  This happens around 4 a.m.  I do not go to him because he manages to go back to sleep by himself.
I thought he might be OT and reduced his A times, but nothing changed, except we started having short naps again.   :-\ So I'm dry and have no more ideas!! So I wanted to get an outsider's opinion to see if there's something I'm missing!!  :-[

Here's yesterday's routine which has been pretty much the same for these last days.
6:00 a.m. woke up and was hysterical, so I fed him and went back to sleep at 6:30 a.m.
E.7:30 a.m. woke up for the day. And had 1 oz.
A. 7:30 a.m. - 9:15 a.m. (1 hr 45 min)
S.9:15 a.m (I went out, so his nanny put him down at this time because she said he was fussy.  I think it was too early.  What do you think?)  He woke up at 9:45 a.m. so I shpatted him back to sleep and woke up from nap at 10:40 a.m.

E. 11:30 a.m.
A. 10:40 a.m. - 1:05 p.m (2 hr 25 min) (I extended this A time because I kept having short naps, so decided to try having longer A.
S. 1:05 - 2:35 p.m. (1 hr 30 min) I didn't have to extend this nap because he did it by himsef.  Finally, he had one long nap.

E. 3:30 p.m.
A. 2:35 - 5:15 p.m. (2 hr 40 min) This was too long, but I tried to put him down around 4:30 p.m but he fought like crazy.  He didn't want to fall asleep.  I had to shpat him for around 30 min until he finally went down at 5:15 p.m.
S. 5:15 p.m. - 5:45 p.m.

A. 5:45 p.m. 6:45 p.m.
Bath at 7
E 7:15 p.m.
S. 7:30 p.m.

DF. 10 p.m.

Today, I heard him fussing around 4 a.m. but went back to sleep.  Then, at 6:00 a.m. he woke up and was babbling.   I thought he was hungry as the day before, so I fed him, but I think he wasn't hungry because he only took 3 oz and wouldn't go to sleep.  DH spent 30 min making him fall asleep again.  He fell asleep at 7 a.m. but woke up again at 7:20 a.m.  :-\

So I don't know if he is UT or OT or what ??? Is he sleeping too much during the day?? I thought he was OT, so reduced his A times, but it didn't work, it made naps shorter (30 min.) So yesterday he had 2hr 25 min A time and had a long nap, so was he UT?
Should I try later bedtime?

Any ideas will be really appreciated 'cause my mind can't think of anything else.

Thanks
Alexa

:'(Sorry... no, my bad. MY boy was demanding my attention by hitting me and the laptop with a hanger...so I had to dash. He's about to kick-off again so I'll be back later to see if there's anything that I can think of.

Hugs  :-*

(and don't let your LO play with plastic hanger... my boy's in an addicted frenzy with it!)

I just wanted to update how today has gone.

So he woke at 6 a.m., I fed him but he wouldn't go to sleep so DH shpatted him to sleep at 7 and he woke up at 7:20 a.m.
S. 8:55 a.m. - 9:40 a.m. (Only 45 min.)

E. 11:00 a.m.
A. 9:40 a.m - 11:55 a.m. (This time I decided to watch for his cues instead of the clock.  So he had 2 hr 20 A time after a short nap?? OMG! I thought this was too long, but he didn't seem tired before that.)
S. 11:55 a.m. - 12:40 p.m. (He screamed and then he chatted for 2 min and went back to sleep by himself.  I had to wake him up at 2:00 p.m. because it had been a 2 hr nap)

So how can you explain this?? He had 2 hr 20 min A time after a short nap and he had a long nap.  So, may be, this is the problem with his NW and EW.  May be he needs more A time during the day.  Any ideas??

He was doing 11.5 hrs and now he is doing 10.5 hrs night sleep!!  :-\
I'm trying to have 2 hr 20 min A time since this length has given us long naps, so I'm thinking this is the right amount needed.

I don't think there's any milestone he's reached.  Everything seems as normal, except for the EW and NW.  But I'm thinking that may be his last A time is too short.  What do you think? Should I try having a later bedtime or will this make him OT?

He usually takes a 30 or 45 min catnap.  And then, he is sometimes up for 2 hr 15 min or 1 hr 45 min.  It depends on the length of his morning nap.  So always try to have the same bedtime 7:30 p.m  no matter at what time was the catnap 'cause I'm always hoping he will wake up at 7:30 a.m.  So may be that could be the problem.  May be I should put him to bed earlier, just 2 hrs after catnap, but then that would be around 6:45 p.m. which is too early 'cause he'll wake up at 6:30 a.m. or even earlier, dont you think??

I'm confused!

So he had his catnap from 4:10 - 5:05 p.m  I wanted to wake him up earlier, but lost track of time, so it ended up being a 55 min nap.  Was this too long?? I'll try to have his bedtime at 7:30 p.m.  Is this ok? Or is it too late or too early? What do you think?

Ok so I decided to put him down for the night at 7:15 p.m because 7:30 was too late, so he went down pretty easily at 7:15.  He woke up around 4:30 a.m., fussed a little bit, and then went back to sleep.  Then at 6:00 a.m. I heard him cooing and babbling, but I decided I wouldn't go to him, so I ignored him.  He went back to sleep after 20 min and woke up until 7:30 a.m., which was great!! So I'm wondering if the problem is that he's going to bed OT or UT? No clue!!

Now, he has been pretty fussy for all his A time.  It has been 1 hr 30 min since he woke and he has been fussing all time.  I don't know why, since he slept a lot during the night.  ??? ??? Any thoughts?  I want to have his A time  2 hr 10 min 'cause that's what has been giving us long naps.  But it seems that it won't be possible :-\

Ok, so another update from this morning....

He woke up at 7:30 and I put him down for his nap at 9:30 a.m, but he was cranky and fussing.  I usually place him in his cot after 2 hr A time and leave the room.  Then, after 10-15 min he drifts off, but this time, I left him in the cot and he just fussed for a while.  I didn't go back inside hoping he would fall asleep, but then he started crying, so I had to shpat him to sleep so he fell asleep at 9:45 a.m. (2 hr 15 min A time).  He slept for 1 hr.   :-\ Was he UT?

OMG, what a game!! heehee :P

Hi :D

So, after 2hr A time he takes a 45 minute nap and today after a 2hr 15min A time he slept for 1 hour. Do I have this correct? If so, I would have to say he's UT. Also, with OT, usually the night wakings happen right after the LO fell asleep for the night. His early morning night wakings (hope that makes sense) and his EW would indicate UT to me. He's probably working his way towards dropping the catnap. A lot of LO's seem to be done with that nap by about 6 months of age, needing it only periodically. I would start working his A times to 2.5 hours and see how he does.

Thanks Robin!! I have the same hunch, I also think he may be UT.  Especially because he wakes up at 4 a.m babbling and then again at 6 a.m. cooing, so he doesn't seem cranky at all.  I was afraid to increase A times because I don't want to have an OT monster!! But I guess I need to experiment.

So I'll definitely try increasing those A times and report back to tell you how things go!!

Thank you so much :-* :-*

Ok, so again something new is happening!!
After the 1 hr nap, he seemed pretty happy.  He started to get fussy after 2 hr 15 min A time, so I put him down.  He was very happy, cooing and playing with his lovie.  He usually does this and after 10-15 min, he falls asleep, but this time, it was very different.  :-\
After 15 min of cooing and playing, he started screaming and crying, so I went in and shpatted him until he fell asleep, but the whole time I was shpatting, he was crying and screaming.   :'(  And then, a new surprise...he woke up after 20 min...he gave a big scream and then started babbling again!!   ??? This lasted around 40 min and didn't go back to sleep.  Then he started crying again because he wanted to get out of the crib.  So I took him out and has been awake since then.  He seems pretty happy and content!! But how could he sleep 20 min after 2 hr 45 min A time?? I think it was too much and he got OT, but I put him down after 2 hr 15 min, was that too early and is this why it took him forever to fall asleep and finally got OT?

Now he'll have another nap around 4 so we'll have a 7:15 p.m. bedtime which I want it to be later, but can't seem to be able to push it!!
Any ideas??
