How did he do Natalie?

Angela - we are on day three of one nap. 5 hours A time from when he wakes. This is also day three of EW. But yesterday and today I don't might. 3 days ago was the 4:45am waking  :o  I'm pretty sure that was caused by having two naps. That's why I just decided to bite the bullet and go for one nap. He's night sleep was getting lower and lower on two naps, no matter how short the naps were. And just by the grace of god he slept 2.5 hours they day of the 4:45 wake up, and then 3+ yesterday. I was not surprised by this mornings EW because I let him sleep so much yesterday. I've tried 5 hours A time several times before and it's never worked. And then..... finally....... it worked. Hopefully it continues so that I can keep bedtime at a decent time.

Was 7 yesterday. Didn't fall asleep until 7:30. Up at 5:15. YIKES.

I'll have to play with it and see what nap length works before for him. I'm assuming 2-2.5

Hey guys, I shared this in the nap sticky up top on the toddler board. I thought I would share it with you guys too, since it is relevant here too.

1 year old                                                              2 naps, 1 of 1 hour and 1 of 1.25-1.5 hrs
                                                                                11.5hrs at night
The transition to one nap usually occurs in the 12-18 month range
18 months old                                                        1 nap - 2 hrs
                                                                                11.5hrs at night

Angela this post also made me think of you
It's by Jann in another link here on the toddler board:
"it took us 2 months, before he slept 1.5-2 hrs.  He would sometimes do more then 2 hrs sometimes 45 min etc.  We got 5 am wake ups some night wakings but nothing major.  He sleeps 12 hr nights and if he sleeps 11.5 we usually get a 2 hr nap.  In all he sleeps 13.5 hrs.  But it took a long time to get there"

Hey ladies -waving-

Can I join in here too??

K has just started doing 1 nap.  We're doing wake up at 7 and nap at 12.00.  This is lasting for 1.5hrs, so we do bedtime at around 7, and have had good nights so far.  I was wondering if I should be happy with the 1.5hr nap or try for a longer one.  K has always been a good sleeper so I was kind of expecting a longer nap.  For the time being I am going to let her get used to the new routine, and hope the nap will lengthen.  And if not then try to increase a time again.

Any thoughts?

Will try to read back to see how you are doing?  I think K is most similar to James sleepwise.

So last night went okay, DH didn't even really have to go in after he laid him down.  He said he would just about open the door and James would go silent.  He did take a long time to fall asleep though, I think he was asleep at 8:30 or so.  When I got home he woke up and cried (about 11) but didn't need us and went back to sleep.  But the best: He didn't wake at 4:30!! YAY :)  Hopefully with those teething popping out he is getting some relief.

Hi Charm :)  I have been meaning to say I love K in her little Hello Kitty hat!  too cute!  How many days have you been doing one nap?  When we went to one nap James did 1.5 hours for a couple days and then it started to lengthen.  Now he does some days of 1.5, some days of 3 and some I have to wake him after 3.5  :o  It really depends on how his night sleep has been going.  I find the 3+ hour naps come after a couple days of 1.5hour naps.  Trying to catch himself up I guess.

Sherry, are you planning on limiting the nap so the EW hopefully goes away?

Natalie this is only day 4 of 1 nap.  On Sunday she slept for 2.5hrs, Monday she slept for 1.5hrs, Tuesday we were out all day so did 2 naps in the stroller, yesterday it was 1.5hrs, and today 1.5hrs again.  At what time is James waking up and at what time are you putting him down for the nap

He woke on his own today at 2h15m.
I am actually thinking that I might push bedtime back if he starts napping longer. I think he really could have gone longer before bedtime yesterday. I think that's why it took him so long to fall asleep.
Yay on the 2.5 on Sunday Charm. See... she will do it :)

Sher, pushing bedtime back will help with the EW yes?  2.15 is a nice long nap :)

Charm, James wakes between 7:30 and 8:30  ::)  regardless of wake time I put him down at 1pm.  If he has had a couple days of 1hr 30min naps then I put him down at 12:45 and let him catch up on some sleep.

I think today James' nap was about 2hours.  I have become really relaxed about his naps lately, he seems to be doing really well napping the length that he needs, I just wake him at 4 so he goes to bed well at 8.

Awwww Sherry your little man is doing soooo well!!!  He's making up for all the terrible naps he had so far and putting our naps to shame lol.  Hope he keeps it up, it's just great!!

Natalie did you start with the nap at 1pm immediately?  Or were you doing a shorter a time before?

No I just jumped in at the 1pm nap.  He was napping at 11:30 or 11:45 but was taking 30-45min to fall asleep.  So I figure keeping him up for an additional 30-45min wouldn't be too bad.  For the first couple days we went out on errands to keep him nice and distracted till 1.

Natalie, sounds exactly like what happened here but everything is one hour earlier because K wakes at 7.  So nap was at 10.30 but she was either taking forever to sleep or not sleep at all.

Sherry - those naps are wonderful lengths! yay Lyle! :)

Hi charmie!  Hooray for K!  She's a big girl now! ;)  We went through something similar when we switched to one nap - first 1.5h, then 2.5h, then 1.5h...then about a week of consistent 2 to 2.5h naps...then back to 1.5h.  Couldn't get her naps to lengthen until I posted here and brought her A time to about 6h.  More like 5h50min.

Today she woke at 7:10ish.  She's much less congested than yesterday, but she had a slight fever before nap so I gave her tylenol.  She slept from 1 to 3:15pm.  I put her to bed around 7:25pm and she fussed quite a bit.  I stayed with her (out of sight) for a bit, shushing her from time to time when she started really crying.  Finally I left her room at 8 and I still heard her at 8:15.  Maybe I put her down too early?  We also didn't give her any meds before bed since I couldn't detect a fever so maybe that's it?  Meh, who knows?

Natalie - I'm trying to be more relaxed about naps.  I figure, if I put her down around 1 and she only naps 1.5h, then at least it takes us to 2:30 and she can go to bed at 7.  But she's been really good.  If only she could shake this stupid virus/cold.

Thanks guys. I hope he keeps it up. The only problem with today is the nap was 10:20-12:30. So...... he had a super long A time before bed. We had kindermusick, so early bedtime was not even an option. But we didn't have any issues going down, so I hope he does 11 hours tonight.

Angela - with Z's  history I would say that it was probably too early. She used to do 4 hours on 1h10m-1h20m so I'm guessing she might need a little more A time before bed. But hopefully it is just a one off and she want's to keep you guessing.

hmph, well she woke up screaming and crying at 9:30.  DH tried to calm her down but she kept crying so I gave her tylenol and DH had to hold her and stay with her until she fell asleep.  I'm not sure what is up, she did feel warm, so maybe she is still feverish.  I also wonder if her canines are coming out...I can't see anything yet but I thought I caught a glimpse of a little white dot on her bottom gum.  Do canines come after 1st molars?

Angela, that is EXACTLY what happened with James last night.  He was moaning in bed for at least 45min after we put him down, then woke up crying around 10 and 11.  I think it is definitely teeth!
