11 week old wakes at 6.30 how do I do EASY?
« on: February 24, 2009, 22:13:07 pm »
Hi there,

Never posted before but have read lots of the posts and found them very helpful and reassuring!

I have been trying to do EASY with my DS for the past 2 weeks, he's 11 weeks old today. Going ok i think but was wondering if someone could check our schedule....not sure if he's getting too many feeds, he was 8lbs at birth and was 2 weeks overdue so he's a very alert little guy who's gained weight well, also as he wakes at 6.30 and not 7 like most schedules i'm not sure if i'm adjusting it correctly.

E 6.30
A
S7.10 - 9.10

E9.20
A
S11ish (went down at 10.40 but wouldn't settle)

E12.30
A
S 2.00 (only slept for 45 mins)

E 3.30
A
S wouldn't nap, went for quiet walk

E5.00
A
S 20 min catnap

E 6.45
A
S 7.30 (went down easily and slept until 3am)

Dreamfeed at 11

woke at 3am BF
woke at 6.30 and day started again..

thanks
susie

All in all looks pretty good...  Some A times in the afternoon are long since the "average" A time for a 3 month old is 1.5 hours.
Waking once to eat is pretty normal.
As for the 6:30am waking... some bubs may just be hard wired to start the day early.  Especially if he's waking happily.
Keep in mind that EASY is not a clock schedule but a routine... so you have to make it fit your baby.
Maybe others will see something i'm not, but I think it looks ok.

HI Susie!!  Your routine actually looks pretty good.  I would maybe decrease some of the earlier A times, that might be why she would not settle at 11?  OT?

Both my lo's are early risers, as they get older they will be able to entertain themselves in their crib for a bit until you are ready to get them.  DD wakes anywhere from 6-6:30AM and will usually occupy herself till we come get her at 7 to start the day!

Waking up once at 11 weeks is fantastic!!

Adjust the early A times and see what happens.

hth!!!

Hi guys

Thanks so much for the replies, good suggestion to tweak the activity times, hopefully it will make the little bubba happier so will work on that. Great to know we're on the right track.

thanks
susie

hi Guys

quick update..... took a look at activity times in the evening and tried to shorten them so DS had an earlier bed time of 7pm after 6.30 feed, we also did the dream feed at 10.30 instead of 11. For the 3am feed i used Expressed milk in a bottle as my let down is quite fast and i thought maybe wind was waking the little guy a bit too early (he sometimes grunts and graons without waking from 5.30 onwards)
For the last two days he's woken at 7 so we've been able to follow EASY a bit better and he's napping better as well. I let him lead the way and he seems much happier, i did have a gut feeling 6/6.30 am wasn't his natural waking time cos he seemed cranky then, i also tried to ignore his early grunting noises and let him sleep through them until 7.

Our new routine looks like this and is working well (all E is breast feed except DF)

E 7
A
S 8.15

A 9.10 (woke early might be teething so comforted him and let him relax before feeding)
E9.40
A
S 10.45

A12.25 (he doesn't always sleep a full hour and a half but i'm not pushing it)
E12.40
A
S1.50

A3.15
E3.25
A
S4.45

A5.35
E6.25
A
S 7 (takes 10/15 mins to settle then sleeps til 3am)

DF (formula) 10.30

thanks for the help
susie
